The "benefit" to you is that you remain in blissful ignorance of votes. Since those are the simplest and most plentiful kind of feedback, I do not see that as a benefit. But I think that's why people do it.

The cost/penalty is loss of your score, along with whatever accoutrements go along with that. Speaking subjectively (with my "reader hat" on), it also means I won't click on your stories at all. So you're losing readers like me, which might or might not be desirable.

ETA: Oh! Shit! I completely misread your question! Sorry; I thought you were asking about votes. But same thing applies for comments: you don't get them because people can't leave them.

You don't get comments, obviously. So you miss out on feedback, which is rare at the best of times, but worthy when you get it.

I'm surprised, though, that you get comments at all from Group. That's the least responsive category, in my experience. I posted a story there several years ago, nada. I wouldn't post there again. Tumbleweeds.

Oh, the comments I'm referring to are not in GS, they're in the Mature stories I uploaded for this year's 750-word project. Since my mindset this year seems to be mature hotwife, I'm drawing a little bit of the inanity of the LW peanut gallery. Then there are complaints about "half a story". Well, geez, man, it says "750 Words" right there in the title you clicked on, so what were you expecting? War and Peace, maybe?

But I do agree, GS is a ghost town, but I sort of enjoy the relative solitude.

But my Valentine's Day one in LW has over 27K views and 291 votes! Of course the 1-bombers didn't disappoint, but it grew to a respectable 3.49.

Don’t take this wrong, but I’m not sure everyonesavoyeur or Stormbringer would agree with that. Both write primarily IR/cuck stories and have over 6k followers.

That too surprises me - Mature normally has grown ups who might mark you down a notch for the 750 words, but wouldn't go on about it. You sure you're not being followed by the vocal ones from that category (which was my first thought).

It's weird. My story is not far from yours in the EC list, and it's got close to 5300 views and 4.33/122. More folk into hardware stores, I guess .
