“Hassan isn’t alone in criticizing the Biden administration over plans to lift Title 42. A number of House and Senate Democrats — including Sens. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Raphael Warnock of Georgia, and Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, the four most endangered Senate Democrats — have called on the administration to delay the rescission of the policy, which allows border agents to quickly kick out thousands of migrants without letting them seek asylum.”

Seems to me that the solution is for Congress to get together and approve a bipartisan bill which makes Title 42 part of "immigration reform."

win-win-win

From all of the threads I’ve read about Brandon, I am convinced that Brandon is a fictional character.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Quite a few people care, including a fair number of Senate and House Democrats. And is absolutely no reason Title 42 cannot continue to be used.
Yes, whiners will whine. They'll have to get over it. By the way, there's a bunch of whiny Republicans about it too..

First you said nobody cares. Then you said Title 42 cannot continue to be used. Now you seem the be acknowledging that there are in fact bipartisan concerns, and that Title 42 can continue, but those Democrats and Republicans who are calling on Biden to keep it in place are “whiners.” Nice pivot moves.

Whining isn't caring.....it's just performance for political points. If anyone really cared, they'd address the problem

The recognize that lifting title 42 will unnecessarily exacerbate the problem
Except that it is necessary because the conditions that it was used for no longer exist.

You can't just use a rule because the results are what you want. If the conditions stop being met, then the rule no longer applies and at that point you are fraudulently abusing the system.

The president does not need to lift it. The administration certainly does not think the pandemic is over. They’re currently trying to reinstate their airline mask mandate. At any rate, it looks like title 42 will be lifted and vulnerable Dems in Congress are not happy about it.

And so are Republicans.

It was a temporary measure. Congressman who blame the President for their own failures deserve what they get

Some good news in today’s WSJ. They are reporting that moderate Dems might link an extension to Title 42 to Brandon’s request for supplemental Covid spending.

That's not going to have any significant effect on immigration, legal or illegal.

It already has had a significant effect. Per NPR, “Customs and Border Protection has counted more than 1.7 million expulsions of migrants at the border. Theresa Cardinal Brown from the Bipartisan Policy Center calls Title 42 the ‘primary tool’ of managing migration at the border under both the Trump and Biden administrations.”

The NPR story continues with this:

What happens at the border once it is lifted?

In a word: influx.

Government officials are bracing for a surge of migrants at the border once the order lifts. It "will likely cause a significant increase in arrivals" at the southwest border, according to a strategic plan released last month by the Department of Homeland Security.

And some agency estimates say they'll see 18,000 border apprehensions per day, which is more than twice the average number of daily apprehensions last summer.

"Whenever Title 42 is lifted, there is likely, almost certainly, to be a surge," Doris Meissner, who leads the U.S. immigration policy program at the Migration Policy Institute, tells NPR. "It will, no matter what, be perceived by intending migrants, and most importantly by smugglers, as the time to come."

Epilogue: All four of these "endangered Senate Democrats" (Kelly, Warnock, Cortez-Masto and Hassan) won their respective re-elections in 2022.

Failed president Donald J. Trump endorsed each one of their opponents ( Blake Masters, Herschel Walker, Adam Laxalt and Don Bolduc) and his slate of candidates all lost.

What? They did? No way! But the red wave was coming for them! Did it get flattened by an orange one?

You get orange when you take red and you add yellow. Seems that’s MAGA’s color.
