well done, that bank... Halifax, UK

Best pronouns for Halifax are she/it. Say it quick enough and it’s perfect.

I have just opened an account with my local Halifax because my previous bank (60 years a customer) closed their local branch and their nearest alternative is eight miles away in a pedestrian area further away than I can walk from a disabled car parking space.

None of the visible Halifax staff had any distinguishing gender badges.

Sounds like the gender badges seriously impacted your customer service experience.

I noticed because it was an issue. All the staff's badges were first and surname only with no Mr, Mrs, Ms, or anything else. I was addressed as Mr. [real surname] as it appears on my bank card.

this is because it was never a big issue; it was only ever blown into one. The option was just that... an option, for any staff members who decided they'd like to have it on their badges. No doubt few have taken up that offer, for whatever reason. All that pearl-clutching and declarations of 'i'm never going to bank with them again, so there!' that so many indulged in was always a hyped over-reaction. And, yes, if you've got Mr. on your bank card, then no doubt the staff will use that to greet you. No reason why they shouldn't.

Think of the fun you could have. No matter what pronoun she has, just keep calling her Miss.
My original post had to be changed. Of the local banks, HSBC is shutting before December, Nationwide will only do new accounts via the Internet which I can't reliably use for banking (or even posting!), and the other bank branches will not say how long they will keep a presence in our town. My wife used to bank with the Co-op using banking facilities at their supermarkets before they transferred all bank work to the nearest branch - 40 miles away. I used to have a Giro account at the local post office. They closed them and moved everything to Abbey National but that is now Santander.

Halifax expects disabled customers to use their branch and have a person always available in the public area to assist account holders.

But I couldn't call the two men who have dealt with me 'Miss'. They were both six-foot black men, but very helpful and trained to deal with deaf and blind old coots like me.
