a UK bank, Halifax, received some complaints about 'virtue signalling' after instigating an option for staff members to include preferred pronouns after their name on their name badges.

A UK bank told customers to close their accounts after they complained about gender-pronoun badges for staff.

The British bank Halifax — a subsidiary of Lloyds Banking Group — said Tuesday that it was giving its employees the option to add pronouns to their name badges.
"We strive for inclusion, equality and quite simply, in doing what's right. If you disagree with our values, you're welcome to close your account," Halifax tweeted in response.

A Halifax spokesperson told Insider in an email: "We want to create a safe and accepting environment that opens the conversation around gender identity. We care about our customers' and colleagues' individual preferences so, for us, it's a very simple solution to accidental misgendering."

Wokism; the new white sheet of racism for the same old crowd of bigots.

^^^ Dumbassissm ... saying stupid shit that you think makes you look smart and superior.

The CEO of Halifax gave himself a salary increase of 12% to $11 million. He gave his employees pronouns - absolutely free, and told his customers that they could sod off if they didn't like it.

Interesting Business plan.

I'm wondering how the shareholders of the bank like the idea. I guess we'll find out after the next shareholder meeting.

I guess pronouns would be handy for making deposits… if it’s a sperm bank.

My bank branch is closing. A Halifax branch is close by. I was thinking of changing to Halifax. Not any more.

Really? I’d pick convenience to me over a teller’s pronouns anyday…free bonus chuckle depending on the teller’s choice.

do you have a problem with staff having the option to have their preferred pronouns under their name, ogg? if so, why? it's an option for the staff, no-one's being forced to use it and i personally have been in earshot of plenty of people who've muttered not very discreet asides about 'is that a boy or a girl?'. This is a simple method of clearing up a problem.

here's the image of the name tag that has a few people so riled up. i'm sure (especially in the UK) that the numbers of people who'd approve far outweigh those who are taking issue with them.

I don't mind how or what people call themelves. What I do object to is a 'woke' company that treats its staff poorly except for name tags.

if they do, didn't you know about it before when you were considering changing to Halifax???

What choice have I? All UK financial institutions treat their staff like shit. When my branch closes, the local staff 'will keep their jobs' but have to pay to travel to work at the nearest open branches - effectively a pay cut.

I have an account at another bank across the road but they 'are reviewing their branch structure' so they might close too, as have two other local bank branches in 2022.

ok, i get that... so, is it a case, for you, of a final straw... as if they're insulting their staff? only i see it as something quite different... a small step giving their staff an option if they choose to use it

It isn't insulting. It is a pointless gesture compared to the pay and conditions they give their staff as opposed to their Chief Executive. One of my uncles used to be a chief executive for a similar organisation. He was never paid more than 10% (including bonuses) above the next most important person and never as much as twice the pay of counter staff.

i think we can both agree on their wages... for virtually all banks, especially given how the majority of personal banking is now done online so no need (according to banks) for them to have to shoulder the expense of bricks'n'mortar buildings/high street taxes and suchlike. There will always be customers who prefer to do their banking in person, but times change and things change and the world moves on.

And I can't use a mobile phone or an App because of my disabilities. Internet banking is useless for me.

People get upset over the dumbest shit. Who cares if lance wants to be referred to as she/ her? People can call themselves whatever they want, how does it effect anyone else?
I stay clear of morons like that but it doesn't get me mad like it does timmy rapey.

Damn, who knew Ogg was a full on all out BB?
that's overstating things, j, but it's true a lot of older people have problems with changes they find pointless (for various reasons) but younger generations see as current and pertinent to their everyday lives. the world moves on, leaves us all behind... one by one.

I'm not. But the Halifax Bank, like many other UK companies, is going for the inessentials without helping its staff.

Appearing 'woke' may be politically correct, but if they still treat their staff like shit, their 'wokeness' is nothing but a PR sham.

PS. Another UK bank's advertising has the repeated slogan 'By your side'. WTF does that mean? If anything?

Thye have an enviable record of mistreating their smaller business customers, forcing them into involuntary liquidation at short notice without discussion and were particularly hard on firms struggling because of Covid. Ditto for their mortgage customers.

So what does 'By your side' mean? We're sharks who will make you walk the plank if we can?

ONLY BBs use the 'w' word. No one that isn't a BB uses it.

Use of it makes one a full blown BB regardless of anything else.
