Tulsi Becomes an Independent

"I've always been an independent-minded person," Gabbard told "Tucker Carlson Tonight. "A Democrat, yes, but an independent Democrat. And my loyalties are very clear: I love our country. And I took an oath both as a service member, as a soldier, as well as a member of Congress, to support and defend the Constitution. And that's an oath that I take extremely seriously.

"And so when you look at this party, the today's Democratic Party, it's controlled by fanatical ideologues who hate freedom. They despise the Constitution. They actively find ways to undermine our God given rights enshrined in the Constitution, like freedom of speech, if you say something and I say something that they don't like."

Amen and pass the plate.

"They are against freedom of religion. They are hostile towards people of faith. People who have their own spiritual practice, especially Christians, finding ways to be vindictive, to discriminate, to punish people who happen to exercise that freedom of religion," she argued. "The list goes on and on, but the foundation of freedom is really what was at the heart of my making this decision that I cannot be a member of a party that is against freedom and actively trying to undermine it."

Preach on! That's pretty much why I became a Libertarian.

The Party left me too.

You opted to become a glibertarian because your wanted to be able say "nigger" without consequence. You couldn't do that once conservatives abandoned the Democrats in 1980.

You would have become a Republican, but they are not accepting of homosexuals, even "recovering homosexuals" such as yourself.

Ergo, glibertarianism (i.e. "cafeteria libertarian", pick 'n choose positions) was your sole remaining choice.

pick 'n choose positions
Shouldn’t we all PicknChoose positions (that’s what she said 🤭) based on our own Moral Compass and belief on what economic system works?

I don’t know the history between you and that other guy, but it sounds like you’re suggesting we have to lock step with one party or the other without deciding on individual issues, on an individual basis?

AJ (his original name, about a dozen banhammers ago) has exactly one overarching position: "Stiggin' it to teh Libz". He'll support anything and everything someone says that denigrates a Democrat in elected office.

If you disagree with him, he'll play the racist card (he's a mixed race numpty, Native American when it suits him, his tribal birth name is DancesWithFalsehoods). He'll often contradict himself (sometimes in the same thread) in the name of "winning". Oh, and he cannot be called a racist because he is not 100% white.

He's had a decade-long grievance with Butters because she posted threads in which he referred to the entire Haitian culture as "subhuman" (Typical response: "I called them 'less than human'....THAT'S DIFFERENT"). Consistency is not one of his strong points.

He joined the Marines during the Carter administration and holds a personal grudge against Jimmy Carter for "forcing" him to learn (and enjoy) fellating his fellow Marines. Discharged early under vague circumstances, he worked as a bouncer in a gay bar for years, before discovering "the error of his ways". He's the most prominent gay basher on the politics board, which is no little accomplishment. Years of doing "poppers" (amyl nitrate) for sphincter relaxation (he's a "bottom") have left him with a heart condition which precludes him from working but frees up hours to lecture others on Literotica.

He claims to be one of the original 15 people in America to contract Covid. Being an alpha male, he got through it without even needing Invermectin, so you should too! (naysayers claim he had a flu bug).

He's been on of the foremost advocates of Perpetual Victimhood since he's been here on Lit (well over two decades). The recently banhammered situational Asian BotanyBoy ran a distant second.

So many opinions...and no one here has any experience with the people of the Islands. They are tired of being ignored. Of being disrespected. They are tired of Americans trashing their homeland. Why is it they love Japanese tourists but fucking hate American? This is the first step towards independence...a process that has been festering since 59. This forces the Democratic Party to not take their vote as granted. I see nothing wrong with Democracy...if she comes out and says I am no longer a Democrat...and the People of Hawaii support her...who the fuck are we to judge? Rob is just bummed cause they don't respect him.

🤔
I don’t think that’s true…

While I agree there are some Kanaka who want the Monarchy restored, there are others who believed if it wasn’t colonized by Americans, it would’ve been by Russia or Japan. I personally don’t see how any outside countries had any right to overthrow a sovereign, recognized nation.

It isn't a matter of what was then. They voted to become a State...and it wasn't a close vote. But what I am saying is they have not...in their eyes...gotten what they thought they would get from that choice. It doesn't really matter if their view is right or wrong...it just is. We are dealing with how Hawaiians view the US. It isn't favorable. I can tell you from my time there, there are people seriously looking at the economics of how to proceed. I don't see them reverting to Monarchial state again. But I can very much see them leaving the Union.

Hawaii is very isolated. Their needs are, as a result, very unique. All they ask...is to have their desires heard. Deny them fine...give a reason for the denial. But to feel they don't matter...that sucks. The only reason the US cares about them is because of the Naval (and other military) bases.

As an outsider, but someone taken in by my employees, we sat around a lot of fires talking. I did what I always do when I am ignorant of a view....I asked questions. I listened. That is what they ask of us. Why should the rest of America think they should fall in line? The Democratic Party is reactive...not proactive. Hawaiians are very family-oriented. They are very proactive to solving issues. They aren't Republican in any sense of the word. But they also are very much not Democratic either. They are Hawaiians.

I don’t see the Monarchy being revived. I don’t think anyone has a clear idea on who the Ali’i are anymore, or who is rightful Heir Apparent.

Hawaii agreed to statehood. And yes, an apology is a start. But in this current world, I see no reason why we can’t return to being a sovereign nation.

FDR would not recognize the party today. It is corrupted beyond belief and the Russian Communist party would blush at the dealings of Clinton, Obama, and Biden the ununifier. I have never seen a president as vile as that man and corrupt in his thinking. We ordinary people will pay the trillion dollar price for Bidens opening the border. The latinos will be a blight on this country for 100s of years.

There is no reason.

And I apologize if I insulted...I did not know you were Hawaiian. I loved my time there...but I got rock fever. As a Democrat...I hate my fellow Democrats thinking they understand something when they have no experience with it. In many ways, Hawaii is already an independent country.

I’m not insulted. I appreciate when Haoles (not saying it in a derogatory way) want to learn about us.

"God given rights" is a curious remark coming from a self-described Hindu.

Living in a part of the country about as different from Hawaii as it gets, I don't really have an opinion on this, other than noting that Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz seem like normal Democrats to me. But nothing in Gabbard's statement or her grievances generally seem to have anything to do with disrespect of Hawaiians, so you seem to be coming from a completely different place.

She's mad because she got rejected (she would have been humiliated if she tried to run for reelection), and she's lashing out at those who rejected her. It's similar to Andrew Yang's little tantrum, though Yang is totally nonideological while Gabbard is just another rightwing nutbag sucking up to the last people who will give her any attention.

Lol...sure...if you say so.

Bottom line...like it or not. The Democratic Party has let us down. Big time. And people are sick of it. Live and learn. The Republican view on abortion will not save you. I can 100% guarantee you have lost my vote...and I have only voted Republican once...in 1978. And I am not alone. Why should we continue to support a system that refuses to listen to us? You will lose the House in November. You will lose the Senate in 2024. And if Trump runs in 24, you will lose the Presidency in 2028. Mark my words. This is because your policies do not reflect us any more.

Have fun voting Republican, I guess. ¯\(°_o)/¯ or maybe the nihilist party?

Ah, so you're an old guy (not poking fun, I have a certain milestone birthday coming up myself). It's starting to make sense now! Not that much else is.

Which Dem policies have you all twisted up?
Two gigantic ones just passed.

You're tipping your hand here. No one in the Democratic party was taking Hawaii for granted in 1959, when it was expected to be a heavily Republican state (that's why it gained statehood concurrently with Alaska, which - believe it or not - was expected to be heavily Democratic). In its first presidential election, HI very nearly went red; only a recount tipped it to Kennedy by about 100 votes.

And whether you mean it this way or not, "the Democrats are taking you for granted" is a very popular rallying cry on the right for sowing discord among Democratic constituencies. Almost without exception, the people saying that have no intention of doing anything whatsoever for the constituency in question; they just want them to stay home and not vote.
