The Official Authors' Hangout Nude Day 2022 Contest Support Thread

Welcome to the AH, Chris. I bet you check your score every ten minutes and panic when it suddenly drops. Unfortunately, that's the way it is here. As Keith implied, there is nothing to prevent carpet bombing of competitors, or pumping up favourites. There's a lot of trust in the system. It's nowhere near perfect, but as long as you accept the limitations, it's not too bad here.

Certainly for a mug writer like me.
Cheers for the welcome.

Yeah, it's a weird sensation. All my previous stories generally found their level after about 20 votes and never really drifted more than +/- 0.2 after that. Outside of competitions, I think that most people who like to give 4 or less stars do so within the first few days of it being published, certainly within 7 days. It is disconcerting that maybe the competition prompts people to seek out and downvote stories when they wouldn't otherwise bother.

I can't really complain, though. Before I submitted it, I worried it would do a lot worse than it has so far. I got a few more followers, including some who don't follow many other writers, and I always find that encouraging.

After a couple of weeks of little voting on one of my entries and a consistent rating around 4.76, in three hours yesterday it was knocked down to a 3.91 (and the zapper went on to hit the noncontest stories I've posted in the last couple of weeks and had left voting open as well). It's likely to come back up in the final sweep, but this is the dynamic of the pattern here of a contest that involves money and has little voting control. You have to broaden your view of the reward of entering the themed contests here. And it's best that you show no personality/opinion position on the discussion board.

It seems like there's someone out there trying to beat the sweep, after a sweep brought my score up 0.14 a voter last night knocked it back down .07

I don't think I'm being paranoid, because there's no activity like this happening on any other story I've published

Hey where will winners be announced? I’m not in with a chance in hell:ROFLMAO: but id like to still know who won. The contests page seems to only up to 2015?

I think early afternoon US East coast time. Someone usually puts a link in here. I'm normally asleep when it happens.

Anyway, hope you all had fun. There's a lot of good stories.

BTW, I've had ten votes shaved and the score went up 0.1.

Congrats to the winners.

JohnBergin has written two stories and won 2 blue W's. Next year he's going for a hat trick.

It is interesting to see what the sweeps did. When I look at my story scores, the score on my private 'Works' list is real time. It takes about 24 hours for it to be reflected on the public list of my stories. The score on the story itself is frequently way out of date.

For the last few days I watched the top ten or so story scores listed on the public authors' story lists.
Nine hours before the winners were announced, Sister Jezabel had a score of 4.86 (first place), JohnBergin had a score of 4.83 (third place) and Voboy's score was 4.80 (fifth place). The sweeps upended things significantly. Number one dropped to number three, number two dropped out completely, number five jumped to number three and number three jumped to number one.

As the old saying goes, it ain't over 'til it's over.

Congrats to the winners and everyone who competed.

The sweeps were short on the numbers of votes but raised the score a tenth and a half.

On to the Summer Contest.

HOLY SHIT.

Thanks, everyone. I had no idea the contest was ending. It's a great crop of stories this year!

Thanks! What a surprise to wake up to. Although I find Nude Day challenging from a story point of view, Davina and Scott were a pleasure to write.

Winning is nice and all, but I’m more excited by the 45 new followers the story exposed me to if that makes sense.

Congratulations to the winner.

My story had very low engagement and the low number of votes (maximum 32) making it very volitile spending about a month creaping up from mid-3s to low 4s. 48-hours ago it was at 4.3 then two votes were removed and it went to 4.4, then another two votes and it was just above 4.5 and Hot and I felt all warm and validated inside. Then, to my surprise, there was a third sweep and it went to 4.73 and 26 votes. I was thinking to myself last night that, in the highly unlikely event there was another sweep, I could lose another two votes and have a shot at the podium except that I would no longer have the required 25 votes to actually be eligable. This from worrying about whether my story would be in the top half a few days ago.

My entry had been knocked down to 3.91 early last week and the last sweep brought it up to 4.75 today. So, a lesson both in not sweating the score until the last sweep is done and not overestimating the maturity and fair play of those play with the themed contests here.

My story was released sometime in the middle of the contest and when I checked after it had been up a few hours it was scoring 2.8 with 9 votes! I didn't check as religiously as I have for previous entries and after a few days it was hovering in the mid 4.8s. What did surprise me was the number of votes, especially per read.

I last entered the Holiday contest last year and that story today sits at 525 votes from 22.5k reads. Same category, but Nude Day has at present 675 votes from 14.9k reads. When I checked before turning in last night I was sitting on 4.86 from 671 votes and am now at 4.88. There seems to be little rhyme or reason with some folks reading and voting patterns, but it is good to see Lit has a sweep process in place that can detect probable phony votes.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who participated. Maybe my story will be complete for next year…

Congratulations to all the winners!!!
This was my first contest, so I was not prepared for what happened
