The interesting thing about the Berenson case is that Twitter repeatedly assured Berenson that his Covid reporting was not violating content policy or was an issue at all with the company. Berenson‘s coverage during the pandemic has extensively relied upon and linked to government reporting data and scientific research studies. In his court filing, Berenson asserts that his relationship with Twitter changed abruptly over the course of one week in July, 2021.

“On Sunday, July 11, Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s Chief Medical Advisor, called Mr. Berenson’s comments about COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy ‘horrifying.’ By Friday, President Biden himself piled on, blaming social media companies for ‘killing people’ on account of their failure to adequately censor content. Hours after President Biden’s comment, Twitter locked Mr. Berenson out of his account for the first time.”

It will be fascinating to see what the discovery documents and depositions next month reveal, particularly about the possible role of the government in content moderation.

Nearly half of President Biden’s 22.2 million Twitter followers are bogus, a new audit revealed.

The audit, which was done for the social media giant by software firm SparkToro, found that 49.3% of the president’s followers are “fake followers,” according to Newsweek.

SparkToro has defined “fake followers” as “accounts that are unreachable and will not see the account’s tweets (either because they’re spam, bots, propaganda, etc. or because they’re no longer active on Twitter).”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is attempting to buy Twitter, has expressed concern over the growing number of fake accounts and proposed a potential crackdown on the sham accounts.

Elon Musk said he believes that 20% of all Twitter accounts are fake and vowed to not go through with his $44B purchase of the social media giant until the issue is resolved.

The praises are valid too. He’s changed the international and governmental business model space exploration and travel, has helped the Ukrainian resistance immensely, is scaling battery production, etc.

So if Musk backs out he's out a billion with nothing to show for it. But what if an audit shows that 25% +/- of the subscribers are bots? Quite frankly Twitter's stock tanks even further. This gives him the opportunity to renegotiate or expose them to the SEC. While the press is doing their best to take down Musk, it's Twitter that's under the gun.
