Last I heard, there were three endurance drugs found although only one was a banned substance. Shows an intent, though.

I'd vacate her medals, ban her support team from international sports, ban Russia from the next Olympics entirely, make every single Russian athlete at the Olymics take drug tests and strip medals from any who fail the test.

It is sad. She is a child. Everything about this is wrong. The IOC is a disgrace. The Olympic Spirit is destroyed. This is no longer what it was...but about politics and money. Time for the US to look at this deeply and ask...couldn't the money spent in sports be better spent? If we want to fund sports...we still have World Championships...what is the purpose of the Olympics anymore?

But the end of the chapter is, just like a writer would seek a way out of writing themselves in a corner, the result is "best for everyone" in a technical way: her finishing fourth is seemingly perfect escape.

However, the way to get there... The girl has been said to probably be the most talented skater ever, and what we had seen was how a corrupt system destroyed her.

And even that in a cruel way is narrative perfect.

Yeah, Russia screwed her and the Olympics pretty good and the IOCs hands are certainly dirty in the matter.

Would have been nicer if she hadn't stumbled so badly and others had raised their game (didn't see it so maybe they did their part better).

The minimum age for female ice skaters is 14, for female gymnasts 16, for male gymnasts 18.

Perhaps it is time for the Olympics to be for adults only, 18+?

When Valieva came off the ice there were no words of comfort from her coach. She got a fearsome bollocking for "giving up, not trying." Children should not be entrusted to a coach like this.

Well, yes, my view is that all Russian athletes are doped up by the government system during their training to the extent needed to keep up their resilience to heavy training into the higher-level capabilities. I think they cut off the drugs in what they will think is time enough so that the drugs won't show in competition tests and that they just miscalculated with Valieva. Her December test was in conjunction with the Russian nationals. Have they done anything about stripping her of her Russian national medal?

The Russians are already on a "hand-tap" suspension for a government doping program. This is the Russians we're talking about. Who believes they've closed down their government athlete doping program?

The Russians were caught doping at Sochi. They were to be banned for three Olympics but the IOC decided to let the ROC (Russian Olympic Committee) to participate which was a slap in the face to all the other nations. Had the IOC enforced the ban this problem with Kamila would never have happened. I do feel sorry for Kamila as the Russians coaches abandoned her after using her. She will never be the same. Also Anna who won gold was abandoned by the Russians while they tried to get Kamila composed. Anna looked so lost. Trusova, the redhead Russian skater who won the silver medal was mad because she did not win gold after performing the most quads. Her coaches let her down by only stressing the technical skills and ignoring the artist side of the program. The ROC tried their best to get Kamila on the podium by delaying delivery of Kamila's drug test. The ROC really screwed this young woman. The USOC should try to recruit this young woman.

The team doctor for the ice skaters was the Russian team doctor for their rowing team in 2007. Then he was banned for three years after it was proved that he had administered performance enhancing drugs to 3 rowers.

The Russians reinstated him in 2010 and the IOC and the drugs agency accepted him.

Bach of the IOC is already denying any responsibility. Nothing will change.

US skaters lost their appeal to be awarded AT least the Silver Medals they are guaranteed at minimum. Why? Because the IOC is corrupt and bullshit. If the Russians win the doping charge, they get the Gold...then the American team came in second and get Silver. That is all the American team asked for....to have an award ceremony at the Olympics.
