I know we Literotica people don't get much love in the Clitorides awards, but consider giving us a vote. You can go to my profile page to find links (since I think I'm not allowed to put a link here in the forum to an outside website).

I'm up for Best New Author, and Best Gay/Lesbian/Gender Bending story among others. I'd love your support as I'm sure my fellow nominated authors from Lit would be as well.

I'm pretty sure you can post links to the Clitorides without getting into trouble. I've seen mentions of them and links on this forum a few times the past couple years since I started hanging out here. I also think if we made a concerted effort, Lit authors could sweep those awards next year. When I followed the link and looked at the winners last year, I saw many of the winners did so with less than a dozen votes.

I've never paid attention to the Clitorides contest before, but I'll check out the nominations and try to get around to reading and voting on the stories.

Question for those who have been involved in this contest before: have you found that being nominated or winning has any significant impact on views for your Literotica story?

I decided to give it a try and nominated one of my stories for the Voyeur/Exhibitionist category, just to see what happened and if it had any impact on the story here.

I got nominated and placed (third, I think, but can't remember what category) several years ago for my story Songs of Seduction - Water. From what I could see after the announcement the impact was just about... zero.

It seems to me that Clitorides is pretty much a closed shop dominated by a relatively small group of writers (from I don't know what site - not Lit, from what I could see) who nominate each other and who can rustle up high numbers of reader cohorts to vote. A bit like the Lit annual awards, but possibly more so. Market yourself and hussle and your story might do okay, but I'm not sure there's much tangible benefit for an outsider. Nobody came beating at my door, that's for sure .

It's affiliated with Storiesonline. If you check out the contact information you can see that. I haven't been there much in recent years, but I used to frequent it often. I noticed it has fewer than 10% of the total stories Literotica does and there doesn't seem to be any comment mechanism.

There is a comment mechanism, but it's turned off by default, and recent. That means that older stories have to have them enabled 1 by 1, so a lot of people don't bother.

I took the time, but I still get more private feedback than public comments.

If you spit up all the chapters, the number would be a lot higher. I'm fairly certain that chapters aren't counted as stories in that count the way they are here. I know they aren't in places like your profile, the author listings, etc. Take something like Arlene and Jeff which has over 800 submissions, but it's counted as 1 story.

Mine have always been nominated from the posting on SOL, so I don't know whether the uptick would happen cross-venue. I've placed a couple of times, and had about the same amount of activity after a win as I got while the nominaton/voting process was going on. Not a huge spike, but noticeable.

The Clitorides weren't originally associated with the site. Laz just revived and started hosting them when they went dormant. They are very much dominated by SOL because the bulk of people active in nominating and voting are from there.

In other words, its very similar to Lit's annual awards, they don't mean anything other than the winners have more social media followers they beg to vote for them.

Last year there was a contest for e-books "The Golden Pig Tails" award. Someone nominated one of my books under the seasonal category (a Halloween themed book), but I hardly received any votes, and the person who nominated me kept telling me "you have to keep tweeting and pushing for votes or you won't get any.'

Because that's what constitutes the best book?

I do think that campaigning for votes rather than reads for a writing contest--and it's been done that way here before for the Clitorides awards--cheapens the contest. It loses being about the quality of the story and the writing and becomes more about social media networking.

My daughter has this saying 'suck at twitter(or instagram depending on the conversation) suck at life.

She's kidding, but in many cases its true.

My wife has a good friend who is a headhunter and she was telling us that if someone is undecided between two candidates for a job, they go to their social media and go with the person with the bigger following

I had not thought about it this carefully, but I agree. My main objective is just to get eyeballs on the story. I don't want people to favor my story if they don't think it deserves it. I've been on here long enough to feel happy about the good reception my stories get and not too bothered when people critique or even hate my stuff. Sometimes they do. I can't imagine it bothers you too much, either, unless it's part of deliberate sabotage effort. You get some trolls and strategic downvotes but you still win contests, something I haven't done.

Twas ever thus. Back in the 80s and earlier, the pop charts and book bestseller lists were known to be based on sales in about 100 stores round the country, mostly in London. The office juniors in publishing companies would be sent to buy up all of certain singles, albums, or books. I'm told that's how the Beatles breakthrough came about.

In my field, we might look at candidates' social media, and exclude the one which wasn't locked down well enough to stop us reading it...

Last couple posts, everyone ignored on account of the whole “if it looks like a spam post, if it smells like a spam post…” factor.

I’m undecided, even if it isn’t entirely (apparently) a reincarnation of ole whatsisname from years ago with some other contest.

It still has a certain look to it though. And aroma. Not that I’m of any importance, but I won’t comment further on this thread. I’ve got cognitive dissonance just writing this. Now where’d I put my Fukitol pills?

I got nominated in 2020 and 21 and scored 4th in Gay/Lesbian/Gender Bending with "Express Delivery". Didn't bother this year, I had only one story and the reception to it was rather tepid.

That's the problem with most of these type contests. They aren't really a test of which story is better. It's a popularity contest. The author with the most followers, or the most friends who will stump for them, or is the best at pushing their story will win. The only way to do an actual head-to-head fair competition is by competing blind. Authors names are removed from the stories and they are required not to advertise or even say which story is theirs. I'm sure a few readers would be able to tell their favorite author's style, but most wouldn't. Doing it that way, stories are judged for what they are and not who wrote them.

Congratulations to Ginny! Well deserved, I know. I voted for you.

If I may be forgiven for piggy-backing on this thread, my novel Alison Goes to London made fourth place for Best Erotic Story by a New Author, which I guess is not too bad for a 19-chapter dystopian romantic satire by a writer who is (I admit) lousy at self-promotion. In "Another Place" where it was published first, this novel has divided opinion, encountering all the opposition (discussed at length elsewhere on this forum) from readers who hate mixing of "categories", cannot read past three chapters, and who cannot recognise satire when it sits up and cums in their face. However, those who have enjoyed it include the great Jaymal, who calls it "tremendously well-written... some of the most arrant unhinged filth I have ever had the pleasure to read... full of outrageous humour - consider me sold". And who would dare to argue with that? Please give it a go...
