Does anyone know if regular plastic storage boxes are weatherproof? If I pack up everything into boxes and temporarily store in an outside space, will the belongings be safe from the elements?

They are somewhat weatherproof. If kept off the ground (on pallets or something similar) and in a covered area, short term would be OK. I would not expose them to rain or snow.

I’m looking to store things on a balcony for around a week. Far back against the wall may help limit exposure to rain and so on. I’m actually tempted to buy one box and put a tea towel and piece of paper in it and leave it on the balcony to see how it fares for a few days!
