Those filters are hard to penetrate and distorting in the best of times in the most open societies, of with China is neither.

The dictatorship of China is not as totalitarian as it used to be. The Chinese people are better educated, and less prone to believe what the dictatorship tells them to believe.

The Tiananmen Square demonstrations of 1989 showed that there was support in China for democracy. I doubt there is less now than there was then . It is not possible to block satellite communications the way it is to jam short wave communications.

Also, a speech by the leader of Taiwan expressing no hostile designs of the mainland, and describing the high standard of living Taiwan has achieved under democracy would strengthen support for Taiwan throughout the world. China will be less likely to invade Taiwan if the Chinese dictators know that Taiwan does not stand along.
