If there hadn't been fifty tons of wet muck stuck in my truck or had I not been monitoring my brake temps (because I suspected I was bring back several tons downhill) I would have reached the slip in time for the side of the mountain to bury me.

Had I left a few seconds sooner or later from a parts shop, I wouldn't have gotten hit by that car which led to a long rehab, home-ownership at a young age and indirectly the family I had. The time of a millisecond sooner and I'd have broken my neck or died from car one rather than broke my leg with car two.

I also might've still accepted the recruitment and would now be Homer Simpson.

Alternatively, had I just taken the recruitment when offered, I'd have been deep underwater and not hit at all.

Had I not decided to intervene in a co-worker's domestic issues, I would be living an entirely different life. I don't have any idea what that would look like, but financially it was a really hard left turn.

Had my mother chosen a different career, I wouldn't have survived infancy. Had my father made it through aerobatics, I likely would not have been born.

Lots of minor twists and turns would have made big differences.

I tend to notice the missed opportunities more than the fortunate choices. When things go well, I don't have occasion to consider what missing that turn would've cost me.

if i hadn't said 'yes' to a first date with someone i'd have finished my a-levels and gone on to uni, probably never met the psycho who preyed on my lack of self esteem cultured by the first and–if i had–wouldn't have been so gullible.

of course, that would mean i didn't have 3 wonderful children and may never have met H. another butterfly effect: i chose to sit down and chat with him over in the poet's bar room. that small first thing led me (over the course of years) to move tens of thousands of miles from home on the first air-flights of my life, remarry (a thing i NEVER planned to EVER do again!), live permanently in TN and learn to cook pretty good buttermilk biscuits oh, and did i mention i found the love of my life with H? in case that went by unnoticed.
