Let's see.

A quick catchup finds me with the brie lovers and the Nicholas Cage fans.

(Odd, that. Usually completely with Aussie and the, errr…liquidish situation, but brie is delish!)

Swayze is probably the better actor, but, contrary to popular opinion I've always found him unattractive. Unnatractive in that weird kind of way where you don't like to watch them onscreen. *shrug*

There are over 1800 different cheeses in the World. They range in taste the equivalent of prime rib to oranges. Most people are unaware of how to pair cheese with other foods to make yum holy fucking wow yum.

Not a Swayze fan.

What's the name of that Swayze movie where he dances? That's Red Dawn, right?

Ha!!! Hardley. That would be the the1987 film Dirty Dancing with Jennifer Gray before she got that terrible nose job. Poor girl, she was unique and distinctively attractive, then she wasn't the same anymore. Overall it was what was referred to at the time as being a chick flick that made big waves and became highly popular. Kind of like Ghost and a girl next door pretty, younger Demi Moore.

I was happily reading away on this thread, when, all of a sudden, I saw this and felt for a moment what it must sound like when the record player scratches across the record.

Really? What is wrong with you people? Swayze better than Cage?

I'd say John Cusack > Nicolas Cage > Patrick Swayze

ETA: Is the Ivermectin idiocy just a special kind of stupid American thing, or is it international?

It's international. Rumor central seems to believe that it was issued and used in low dosage, tablet form in Mexico when things got bad. There are similar claims of its issuance in India. I think that I'll continue to be a skeptic of all of that back and forth back door rumor control.

Cusack fan!

Though, seeing him in an interview rather cooled my ardor.

There are over 1800 different cheeses in the World. They range in taste the equivalent of prime rib to oranges. Most people are unaware of how to pair cheese with other foods to make yum holy fucking wow yum. >

My two standby favorites are Délice de Bourgogne and Fromager d'Affinois, the latter paired with a fig jam. A thousand noms.

……..Now I'm hungry.

I just watched the documentary on Val Kilmer. He’s got to be up there with John Cusack … and cheese. 😢

Was that any good? I've been considering watching.

Not a Swayze fan.

Oh, my brain doesn't care. It's definitely in the terrain of eating disorder/phobia in my case.

Nicholas Cage was not in The Outsiders.
Nicholas Cage was not in Point Break.
Nicholas Cage was not in Red Dawn.
Swayze wins.

Nicholas Cage was in Raising Arizona. His only good movie. But it was really good.

Hmmm . . .

Ok. Ok. Ok.

I had to come back and respond to this. In all seriousness... To anyone thinking of doing this 😳

Ivermectin is a neurotoxin.

Do NOT take this. You will overdose.

Our hospitals are full.

Please, don't.

I'm amazed at the number of people who've been using this stuff and sharing information on it. Some say you can't overdose on it while others provide extensive information on dosage. Then they go on about its antiviral properties. It's just to weird... a worming med... for real???

We went from "y'all can't trust big pharma and the vaccine ingredients" to "y'all can trust Merk (big pharma, btw) and fuck knows what it does, but Facebook said this horse and sheep (haha) medicine works" pretty fucking quick.

I'm stunned. Just... 😳

Okay, I'd heard that some doctors had prescribed this stuff but now it's confirmed.

Also bear in mind this is the tablet form and not the paste so many people are using. I'm just wondering where all of this is going. SMH

Our esteemed posters seem to think that Swayze is better than Cage, I don’t agree but I can understand their position. Since this has turned into People magazine for the week, there are actors that are forever linked to a particular movie scene, that no matter where they are and what they are doing g when you see them, you can’t help but remember the scene. The all-time classic example of this is Ned Beatty in Deliverance.

Are there others?

Apparently not….

I’ll go with a simple Saturday topic. What was the last truly good thing that happened to you? Bonus points for sharing why you think it may have happened.

As has been repeatedly pointed out to me...the playground is a place to "escape from reality". Thinking is not allowed. Questioning life is not allowed. Being confrontational to segments of the population that are OK with killing others is not allowed. Anything that doesn't have to do with being brain dead is not allowed. So you have to better direct your questions to the audience. May i suggest...peanut butter or jelly first? Earth-shattering questions. Or flirt more... that is really all that they want.

My ex is allowing me to take my 12 yr old daughter. Not gonna be easy being a single parent and to be honest...I am scared. I am packing today. Simple really...she has realized our daughter needs more and I can provide that. Why did this happen? Drugs became more important. You know...that other escape from reality. Tough explaining to a 12 year old that even though her mom loves her...and that she is a good person...her priorities have become lost.

Me? I put the peanut butter on the bread first. Then I put the jelly on the other piece of bread. Maybe I am unskilled? It is the only way I can get the jelly in every bite. Jif...creamy. There is no other peanut butter. And Smuckers strawberry jam.

The last truly good thing was being asked to create a program for a high-profile government agency. Why it happened? I’m not great at self-promotion but I think it was just having the courage to put my talents out there - where I would normally be more timid and second guess myself.

I am scared.

Jullianne Moore in The End of the Affair: The scene where she says, "Love doesn't end, just because we don't see each other."

Micheal Biehn in Aliens: The scene where he echoes Ripley. "I say we take off, nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

Wow. Should I be disturbed that question left me nonplussed?

Ouch.

Hmm. Honestly, this last 2 1/2 years or so has been tough. Much personal reflection. and reexamination of self and goals. There's also been a lot of changes - pandemic aside. I've been busy. I can't say I've thought much about *good* things. Clearly something I need to change. ;)

They don't. As the old bumper sticker goes, "shit happens." It doesn't have inherent goodness or badness. It is just an event. Any seeming value judgment comes from within us, our acceptance of the event, and what we do next.

I guess my point is, if you're good enough, then everything that happens to you will be good. Because you will take the lemon you got instead of an apple, and instead of making apple pie you'll squeeze that shit in some water and stir in some sugar.

Or, you can be the jackass checking a free horse's teeth... like that tells you if it's going to be a new hobby horse or a nightmare down the line.

Life isn't found sitting around inside waiting for the storm to end. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

True wisdom only comes from pain.
And anyway, I don't mind the rain.

ETA: But, I did get my internet back after a month in exile. Good for me. For you reading my drivel... eh.

Wow. Should I be disturbed that question left me nonplussed?

Ouch.

I don't think so, Enny. This question is bound to do that (likely not in a bad way either.) I didn't know to react. I think generally lots of good things happen to me, but how do you rate them? What's truly? I talked to a lovely, wonderful friend today, that's pretty good. But is it worth mentioning to "the last truly good thing?" I mean, I guess the answer is likely yes, but at the same time, it makes me think. Even in tough times, good things happen. They might be harder to see, they might even feel normal or routine, but this question just seemed to make me think "well, shit, it's got to be a big life event."

But really, it doesn't. Talking to a friend, coffee and a bagel, a lunch date, watching the latest Ted Lasso again, those can all be good things.

So can a Nic Cage movie, though you wouldn't think so from this thread right now!

Buffy Michele Gellar made a few horror movies in the ‘90’s where she was always running from the killer and I would think, “Why don’t you just vampire slay him?”

I’ve been in a miserable mood all day. But upon reflection, I woke up this morning and my family and friends are all safe and healthy.

Pretty good day. :)

Excellent point! :cattail:

(And thank you for sharing that I wasn’t the only one nonplussed.)

For me it’s been more of a negative/good loop this last couple of years. Take Covid, for instance.

-No one I know has suffered financially under Covid.
-No one I know has been seriously ill under Covid.
-In fact, no one I know has even contracted Covid. (Including medical personnel and first responders.)
-No adults I know remain un-vaxxed.

That sums up to rather fortunate on the whole.

*pfft*

These anti-Cagers. They know not of what they speak. :p

I am not a creature of habit, but yes! Jif creamy only . . . PB on the left slice, jelly/jam on the right (currently blackberries and pinot noir wine jam - too good to share!). :D

What psychopath smears the jelly OVER the peanut butter while the other piece of bread is left bare? Doesn’t everyone apply peanut butter to one slice and jelly to the other before sandwiching them together? Next you’ll be telling me some people spread mustard over the ham before laying on the remaining slice of bread!

So no one puts PB on both, adds jam to one, and then sandwiches them together? Really? I'm the only one??

Nicely said D.
You’ve read my mind on some of that up there for years. And/But pfttt to it all…..

More importantly, I applaud you for this new, not so easy, hello chaos life adventure with your daughter that will be filled with memories and stability for her.
💗
That’s the stuff that really truly matters at the end of the day. You’re a smart man and I’m pretty sure you already know that too.

My truly last good thing that happened to me was having an incredible weekend with my husband. Delicious food, chilling, afternoon naps, hot sex and no to do list.
Why do I think it happened- well I was gone a week rolling around in bed and locking lips with Trekka. I’m pretty sure he wanted to see the pics and hear about our shenanigans.

PBJ - Uncrustables. Comes in grape or strawberry jelly. Nutella.
Is this an abomination or genus?

PBJ - any other alteration besides PB on both sides and grape jelly added to the mix are just poor imitations for PBJ. PB on just one side? Next I’ll read you drink decaf coffee…
