Need for Federal Legislation to Safeguard Democracy

Several factors contributed to the failure of former President Trump and his allies to overturn a democratic outcome. The legal arguments made by those seeking to overturn election results were generally so extraordinarily weak that they did not have even the veneer of legitimacy. Certain election officials—both Republican and Democratic—refused to buckle under pressure at critical points, placing election integrity and our democracy, ahead of partisanship. And the attack on the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, while dangerous, was inept.

Without new federal legislation strengthening protections for voting rights and
preventing election subversion, we cannot confidently rely on these factors to protect the will of the voters in future elections, especially since the legal environment is growing more hostile to free and fair elections.

22 state attorneys general write to Congressional leaders urging passage of new voting protection legislation

The right to vote is a fundamental right protected under the equal protection clause. If you believe the right is being effected then challenge it. Government has the burden to meet the strict scrutiny test.

Dems are shitting bricks that the days of stuffing ballot boxes are coming to an end.

22 State Attorneys just indicated as such.

"stuffing ballot boxes" - the days you speak of never existed except in Republican twisted reality brains

There is no evidence of wide spread box stuffing is a thing. What seems to be a thing is that voter suppression is a very real thing and one that is troublesome because this was a messy 'shots fired' thing but someone is going to figure out a plan that will hit a perfect spot of it hits conservatives harder on paper but in reality it screws the libs.

Why are the petitioning Congress? File suit. There are already laws on the books for this very thing. Or are they just playing politics?

Perhaps read the letter and find out for yourself. Lawsuits will be filed.

It's a general term for vote fraud. And that is still a thing, as we saw in 2020.

Some light reading for you, should you choose to accept.

I pasted the above link into this thread link below, funny no one from the Right came back to refute it....which would be very difficult, since it was written by the "international experts" on elections.

There has NEVER been proof of voter fraud on a level that would have influenced the outcome of the 2020 election. NEVER. Many have tried to find it and failed. Yet the Trumpers continue to parrot the line. Even the vaunted "investigation" going on in Arizona has found little of nothing. If they had you can be sure they would have been crowing about it.

So since you insist there is, why not produce some cites that prove your point? Or can you? I'm betting you can't. Let's see it....if you can.

None of which matters.

Either states have the right to run their elections or they don't.

Where do you stand??

If lawsuits will be filed, then my point stands. There's a mechanism in place and no need for Congress to act. Let it work through the court system.

Obviously 22 State Attorneys disagree with you.

With the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1966, we established that states' right to run their own elections is not unlimited and not beyond federal control.

Well we'll just "Sanctuary state" ourselves out of that trash. :D
