Towards a post-Christian America

What this means is that dominionism has no hope of success at all. Any hope it might ever have had is doomed by generational demographics.

For a long time, deeply religious American Christians simply avoided politics as an occasion of sin, which I suppose it is.

That all changed in the 1970s, with the establishment of the Moral Majority, in the context of a backlash (that now seems so, so much a thing of the past) against the sexual revolution and the gay rights movement. (Also, it involved creationism and anti-Communism and Christian Zionism.)

The 1970s also saw something previously inconceivable: A political alliance between conservative Catholics and Protestants.

And that was when Protestants began to take an interest in abortion, which previously had been a strictly Catholic issue.

Future post-Christian American generations will look back on the religious right with deep puzzlement.

And, no, there is no possibility that as Christianity fades away in this country, Islam takes its place.

The new religion in the USA is Materialism and it's growing.

Nothing new about that religion here, it goes back to colonial times. Of course, we have had Materialist Great Awakenings, most notably in the 1980s.

better education and social media is beginning to make itself felt

people are less reliant on the carrot/stick relationship of religion, especially when they can see how people are fleeced by the immoral tv religious loudmouths; with the internet, there's a greater exposure to diversity of ideas and information about the corruption in so many religions. choices are made that don't reflect the blind acceptance of the fifties, acceptance that didn't necessarily depend on true belief but often more a case of social acceptance: jobs, partners, being a part of a community often depended heavily on whether or not you professed your 'faith' by going to church regularly as an outwards sign of embracing christianity in whichever form.

It is already difficult to believe what a deep hold the "Christian consensus" once had on American society. In the latter half of the 19th Century, the cause that excited most support among the people was the missionary cause.

Your anti-Christian dreams won't be fulfilled for some time yet:

"Christianity is the most prevalent religion in the United States. The Public Religion Research Institute's "2020 Census of American Religion", carried out between 2014 and 2020, showed that 70% of Americans identified as Christian during this seven-year interval.[1] In a 2020 survey by the Pew Research Center, 65% of adults in the United States identified themselves as Christians.[2] They were 75% in 2015[3][4] 70.6% in 2014,[5] 78% in 2012,[6] 81.6% in 2001,[7] and 85% in 1990. About 62% of those polled claim to be members of a church congregation.[8] The United States has the largest Christian population in the world and, more specifically, the largest Protestant population in the world, with nearly 205 million Christians and, as of 2019, over 141 million people affiliated with Protestant churches, although other countries have higher percentages of Christians among their populations."

SAD how some people think

This country was built on religion and now these ass holes ar try everything to destroy it. It will be our destruction.

well to use a favoured rw phrase: if you hate this country, pack your bags and leave

or, you know, you could just do the democratic thing and vote, then accept the outcome of a democratic vote PEACEFULLY

america won't fall apart if religion loses its hold over the majority of americans. so long as those who wish to embrace a faith are free to do so, without forcing their beliefs on others, all is good. When a religious minority still insists on wanting to be the loudest voice in deciding how we live, that's not exactly democracy is it?

the pews are emptying... churches have been corrupt, greedy, unaccepting of diversity. when enough of the castigated say 'we can live without this stuff', churches will lose their revenue streams. but, yanno, thoughts and prayers there, li'l buddy, thoughts and prayers

Why? Religion is nothing we can't get along without. The Euros get along just fine without it.

Except they're not. Europe is fading, and fading fast. There isn't a country in Western Europe where the indigenous ethnicity is reproducing itself in numbers sufficient to replace the existing population.

What does that matter? France with a lower population will still be France. France with a much larger Arab population will still be France.

It will still be a land mass called "France," at least in the short term. But do you see the famously abstentious Muslim population being as enthusiastic about wine, champagne and calvados as the ethic French?

And when there is a sufficient plurality of Muslims, do you even dream that such a thing will be possible? Keep in mind that statues of pigs are already being torn down because Muslims find them offensive, and the Euros are too decadent to object.

Eventually.

The First Amendment rights aren't up for a public vote. One can always run on repealing the First Amendment. It won't happen though:

"The United States has the largest Christian population in the world and, more specifically, the largest Protestant population in the world, with nearly 205 million Christians and, as of 2019, over 141 million people affiliated with Protestant churches, although other countries have higher percentages of Christians among their populations."

Turns out that when you convince people that they are the most important things in the world and nothing is above their immediate and uninterrupted elation, they realize that having kids is a big impediment to that elation and they forego it forever.

Then your country dies.

The snag on this one is that we know there a LOT of people who identify as Christian but are not Christians. I'm not even talking about charlatans like Trump who we KNOW isn't a Christian. . .well actually he probably is. I bet if we could trace what he identified with his entire life it would be Christianity. Not because he went to church every Sunday or even on Easter and Christmas like my father does (or did). He was given the following optioins: Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu (maybe), Atheist/Agnostic and other. By matter of elimination he was a Christian.

We still live in an America where things like being in public office require you to at least play along. I don't know how religious I believe Obama or the Bush's are. I think Bill clicked the button. I takes a lot of courage to come out as an aethiest/agnostic in this country.

So those numbers are probably inaccurate to begin with but once we get past THAT issue we move on to what the important issues are which are all of the policies driven primarily by religion. Sexual Education and Health. LGBT rights. Teaching evolution and not pretending there is a controversy. There is not among the educated.

It even stretches into climate change. Because the Christians push an equal parts "Do you think we could destroy something God created?" (No we don't, we think we could make it unable to sustain us. God made rivers (if he existed) but we have polluted them to the point that some have caught fire and many of them you cannot drink from.

Clearly the hold religion had on America is fading and will not be replaced by Islam. Nobody is REALLY out to destroy Christianity, though if we were wise we would be. There is nothing positive that comes out of that cesspit. (And the others as well but they don't hold any political power in my country. I'm not concerned about a jackal and a racoon in my yard when there is a lion running around.) Nobody cares if you want to pretend a baby was born thousands of years ago and we should light up trees. We don't care if you want to go to church. We care if your church directly and intentionally influences your politics and pays no taxes because they are not a political entity.

The direct result of the retreat of Christianity.

Materialism predates Christianity. If anything Materialism in the US coopted Christianity to the point that priests who (and the entire church) are meant to run off donations have men who have their own jets FFS.

Except they're not. Europe is fading, and fading fast. There isn't a country in Western Europe where the indigenous ethnicity is reproducing itself in numbers sufficient to replace the existing population.

Europe is not fading. White super majorities are getting smaller and smaller and will continue to do so until a number of policy changes are made. The EASIEST way to solve this however is just to get the Middle East stabalized. Throw money at it and make clear terms on getting terrorism down and industrialization up. Get their nations on par with poor US States and MOST of the problems vanish.

Yes it would still be France and yes I see Muslim population being as enthusiastic about win and the rest because they would do like they always did and absorb the current populations culture. And THAT would never happen. They'd end up Muslims in the same way American Christians are Christians. They'd keep the name and call it a day.

What has that to do with Christianity or post-Christianity? Christianity is a religion that expressly values celibacy over reproduction. "It is good for a man not to touch a woman." -- St. Paul

And what "policy changes" are those? Something along the lines of Hungary, where a family can be relieved of taxes with a sufficient number of children? Do you see any inkling of that in Germany? France? Britain?

Muslim fertility already dooms the ethnic Germans, French, Greeks, Italians, Swedes, etc. who are not reproducing anywhere close to replacement rate. Imams already openly boast that the conquest of Europe will be with the wombs of their women, and they are right.
