The Culture War

That's because they were born after the iron curtain fell. If they had ever witnessed what socialism actually delivered they would probably have the same negative view as those who did.

The NHS spends around £40m a year on DEI advisors who tell them to use phrases such as "cervix havers", "people who menstruate", "prostate havers", etc...

When going to have blood taken for testing NHS staff will ask anybody under 55, including males, if there's any chance they may be pregnant

I wouldn't regard the people who object to this money-wasting nonsense as the simpletons.
I've never heard anyone use terms like "Cervix havers," "Prostrate Havers" or "People who menstrate." Are you making these things up?

I do agree that some of these attempts to come up with non-offensive labels do go a bit too far sometimes. HOWEVER, there is nothing wrong with at least TRYING to be respectful- and also trying not to seek new and creative ways to be offended by inoffensive stuff.

I often call Trump a rapist, but that word is politically incorrect.

The preferred term is now "organ donor."

I notice nobody in this thread has even questioned my assumption that conservatives deserve to lose the culture war.

Very plausible schemes, with very pleasing commencements, have often shameful and lamentable conclusions...

[This is most obvious when we consider the Russian Revolution.]

When ancient opinions and rules of life are taken away, the loss cannot possibly be estimated. From that moment we have no compass to govern us; nor can we know distinctly to what port we steer...

Many of our men of speculation, instead of exploding general prejudices, employ their sagacity to discover the latent wisdom that prevails in them...

The errors and defects of old establishments are visible and palpable...

No difficulties occur in what has never been tried. Criticism is almost baffled in discovering the defects of what has not existed.

- Edmund Burke, from On the Revolution in France

Edmund Burke unrealistically idealized the status quo in France that existed prior to the French Revolution. Nevertheless, I agree with him that there is sometimes wisdom in tradition. The sexual revolution has led to increases in divorce, and greater increases in illegitimacy. It has also led to evidence that children who are raised to adulthood by both biological parents living together in matrimony tend to have fewer problem in life, and they usually create fewer problems for others, than children raised in different circumstances.

In his 1980 debate with President Carter, Ronald Reagan claimed that he could cut taxes (especially for the rich), raise military spending, and balance the budget by 1983 "if not sooner" without cutting popular middle class entitlements. With that bizarre assertion he lost the claim to be fiscally responsible, and consequently a conservative in the tradition of Edmund Burke. During the Reagan administration the national debt increased from $908 billion in 1980 to $2,602 billion in 1988.

Years ago George Will wrote a column I wish I kept. He wrote that deficit spending does not benefit the economy, but it does benefit the Republican Party. This is because a growing national debt makes it difficult for the Democratic Party to finance programs to help its natural constituencies. Republican politicians win elections when lower income white men think, "The Democrats never did me any good. At least the Republicans won't take my guns."

Because "deserve" is just your personal fee fees.

There is no basis in reality for it...because in reality they aren't losing the culture war, and the shift lately has been DRAMATIC. You and the comrades need to cope and that's ok.

To corrupt the culture one starts by corrupting the language.
