How does one reply to comments on their work?

Is there a way for an author to reply to comments on their own works that I'm somehow missing? I've seen it done on other works with many comments from the author.

But when I scroll down to the comments section of my own story, I don't see a way to reply to individual comments as the author... unless I submit a comment as if I'm a reader.

Is there no other way?

That’s it, I think.

Are you logged-in on the story side of LIT under your author ID? If not, the system doesn't know you. *I* have no problem commenting on comments under any of my submissions. And be aware that the story and forum sides of LIT are not connected. I've an alt that's active on the story side but is banned from forums because it dredged-up ancient threads. Oh, the agony!

Oh, so it does work!

I am logged in under my author ID. It shows that I am when I post a comment. But try as I might, I cannot pick a comment from someone else on my story and reply directly to them.

I guess I'll try to log out and back in again. Maybe that will work.

Thanks for the confirmation, at least, that it can be done!

Tried logging out and signing back in... still no go.

I even tried a different browser. Nada.

I wonder why I am not able to reply to comments.

You can only reply by just adding another comment. There will most likely be no reply from the reader as they add their comment and move on. I do sometimes reply by using the @username as the first line. But there is no notification sent to the reader. I mainly do it so other future readers will get a laugh.

It's a comment section for readers, not a conversation section. I see no reason for anyone to respond to them. Apparently Management doesn't either since there is no reply/respond option.

I just simply delete them all on pieces I forgot to turn the option off for.

I might've misunderstood what I saw--OOF!

Thanks, all. Strange. I thought I had seen authors reply to comments on stories -- but looking at a few just now, I guess I was mistaken.

I must have been thinking about this one time I saw an author drop a line in the comments about why she chose the subject matter she had written. For some reason I mistook it for a reply to another reader's comment. My bad.

But yes, it does indeed look like the site does not grant the ability to reply directly to readers. I will simply "@username" in a comment if I find the need to address anyone, then.

Thanks for the help everyone ITT!

I drop comments in my comment section on stories, usually just to call a troll an idiot about what he thinks is in the story. From his/her comment I tell if they really read it. They never comeback unless another troll sees the comment I made and tells them. After that I just delete their comments.
