Have you been on the receiving end of a bullwhip? I understand it can be quite painful. That's why it's at the top of my fantasy list.

This is very good advice. Even things like single tails and floggers can do damage is the person weilding them don't know what they're doing.

I agree totally, a lot of stories make me cringe when I read about using a bullwhip in a scene or as punishment and it makes it seem like it is no big deal.

Any kind of impact play can cause problems, a single tail or a flogger used wrong can cause damage is done too hard or in the wrong place. I don't know how many stories I have read where they have a sub caned like with 20 or 30 lashes of a rattan cane...you do that the sub is going to be in serious distress....

I don't know if the OP is hot on the idea of using a bullwhip on someone else or on them, but it isn't something you jump into. I have had a bullwhip on me, I was a pretty strong pain slut, and honestly as hard as I had played before I never experienced anything like that. The person doing it knew what they were doing, they weren't going as hard as they might with someone more experienced with getting bullwhipped, and it was pretty severe. If you are going to try it as a bottom/sub, find someone who is experienced to do it. I think the previous commenters have this covered but I’m going to chime in with a couple of thoughts. I understand the aesthetics of the bull whip and the idea of it but what is this going to give you that safer options won’t? Although I thought at the time that it was a bullwhip that was used, and called it so in the story, I discovered afterward that, thankfully it was not the real thing! As I was still in my teens I was not an expert in such matters. I now know that it was a much softer, platted affair. That said it still hurt when it struck!!
