Take it in, breath, rejoice at some long awaited justice and this is just another starting point for continued mov't toward a larger national police and judicial reform movement.

I'll sleep better tonight, and tomorrow it is back to work.

Say his name.....George Floyd!

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said the "verdict is an important step forward for justice," but there is still work left to do. He called for a continued "march for justice" and said the only way the state will change is "through systemic reform."

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said he would "not call today's verdict justice," but did say that it is "accountability."
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey commended the jury and said they "refused to look away" and affirmed that Floyd "should still be here today."

Former President Barack Obama said "the jury did the right thing," adding "we cannot rest."

Floyd family attorney Ben Crump reflected on the significance of the decision at a news conference after the verdict saying, "We frame this moment for all of us, not just for George Floyd. This is a victory for those who champion humanity over inhumanity, those who champion justice over injustice, those who champion morals over immorality. America, let's lean into this moment."

Vice President Kamala Harris and President Biden addressed the country calling the verdict a "giant step forward in the march towards justice in America." The President said he talked to Floyd's daughter and told her, "daddy did change the world."

Sadly, there have been even more deserving victims of police brutality than George Floyd who have been denied justice.

If the primary result of Chauvin being found guilty is the deterrent effect on other rogue bad cops who flout their oath to protect and serve, then maybe that's enough. Expecting 100% of cops to behave like "good cops" isn't asking too much.

Ultimately, my hope is that as society takes measures to de-emphasize industrial policing, society itself will step up and confront the issues that lead to the demand for that level of policing.

Poverty, drugs, crime, exploitation, etc, must be reduced in parallel with police reform or the demand for the service will never subside.

If monetary resources are diverted from reactive policing to proactive social programs, then there is an expectation that there must be a decrease in the social ills that typically require police intervention.

Every community needs to hold their people accountable and encourage behavior that reduces demand for police services. Police also have to do their part to avoid fomenting anger and mistrust. Protect and serve. Be the communities "finest".

We all need to do better.

Yes, the George Floyds of the world are a big part of the problem. He shouldn't be dead. But I don't think he, as a person, should be canonized either.

He was found guilty by rule of law, comrade. ;)

Surely by now you're aware that BoBo and others like him subscribe to an entire alternate reality, where everyone from the medical examiner to the jurors knew Chauvin was pure as the driven snow, and were really just afraid BLM and Antifa would burn Minneapolis to the ground if he were acquitted. Don't bother trying to understand.

In August, Chavin's three fellow officers that helped him kill Floyd will stand trial. The prosecutor will show once again the damning video along with the testimony of the Minn. police officials. To help things along perspective jurors will have had the opportunity to see the original official police version of what happened to Floyd which was nothing more than pure fantasy. The perspective jurors will also know that the defense witness, Dr. Fowler is being civilly sued for doing what he tried to do during Chauvin's trial, put up a smoke screen.
