The photo of the gorgeous puppy in my avatar was taken twelve years ago. He passed last week. Heartbreaking beyond words, my best bud. Why do our beloved pets leave such a paw print on our hearts?

Sorry

The bond between humans and various animals can be very strong. I have even been destressed when wild animals that live in our yard (Like rabbits) end up getting killed.

I am sorry that you lost your friend but I am glad when people have had a pet with whom they have had good memories.

It might be a good idea to head to the pet store and find a new little furry friend.

Sorry for your loss. I know your pain. It hurts.
I too lost my best friend and constant companion a while ago.

Why do our beloved pets leave such a paw print on our hearts?

Because when they leave us they take a piece of your heart with them.

Cherish the memories you have.

Lost my precious angel 1 year before my dad died. It makes me feel better when I'm missing them both that they are together and waiting to be with me again.

Sorry for your loss. :rose:

April 10 will mark a year since one of Allah's best critters ever went to Carolyn. (Send them to her when they go - trust me on this - it works.)

New one moved in last week.

And the cycle continues . . . .

I like how there are finance companies that cater to fools who need subprime pet care loans.

USA!

How many billions per year are stolen from ordinary americans by preying on their sad selfish emotional attachment to a caged “pet” ?

12 years is pretty good, J. You must have done something right by him so take comfort in the knowledge you gave him a good life. :rose: the more we love 'em, the greater the hole they leave behind.

With my first doggo (whom my wife called my "first love"--she wasn't wrong), it's been 20 years (and my wife has been gone for seven) ... I still cry for both of them.

I honestly think they're here to teach us how to love, 'cause when you think about it, no one else does. If there's a more valuable gift to be given, I can't think of one.

That’s a wonderful perspective.

A little sympathy would go a long way.

A little callousness simply adds to the hurt. I know it is hard for some to understand the bond of love between an animal and a person who loves and cherishes their pet, if they have never experienced it. And I am sorry you have never experienced that love yourself. But just try a little compassion, or if you cannot empathize, at least avoid the unhelpful and counter-productive remarks.

I have pets.
Not by choice.
Love is not a term that applies...

If you have that strong of a bond with an animal,
it only speaks towards your inability to relate to human beings
and you therefore seek out a compliant and obedient substitute for that which you desire.

That is a sad state of affairs.

Seriously.
And you should not have pets.
