Texas Roll Call!

Worked a 12 Wednesday night and had to drive home at 0630 yesterday morning. It was a white-knuckle situation for about 30 miles. It took me over 2 hours to get home and I saw at least a dozen accidents. I drove my truck in 4A the whole way home, never went above 30mph, and slid around at least twice. Absolutely horrible.

Watched the terrible accident on the news. My daughter lives just north of Houston. Visit there in the spring and fall. It's a blistering negative 8° in Indiana.

Well it is raining steady and starting to freeze here in Houston. Stay safe and warm out there.

It has been lightly snowing in the Hill Country for about an hour. My patio and walkways are a sheet of ice covered in show and it's friggin cold out. Gillespie and Kerr Counties have several without power and have asked their customers to cut way back to avoid further outages. I'm doing my part.
Stay well, warm and safe!

Cold I don't mind but when there is rain, freezing rain and snow all mixed in it is never a good thing, especially in the South.

Stay warm and put another log on the fire.

I agree, if only it was the cold weather we could still go about our lives. Tomorrow is another day of the same.

Not from Texas, but have read all about the ice etc. I hope that power is soon back. In the meantime please be careful while keeping warm, driving etc. my thoughts are with you

The cold itself is turning out to be the bad thing here. Tons of people are losing power and water pipes freeze. The precipitation isn't a problem if you stay off the roads if you can.

Going on 5 hours no power

It may be 8 to 12 hours from what I'm seeing.

That sucks, I'm sorry. I haven't had water and it doesn't look like I'll get the pipes unfrozen before the next freeze tonight.

Stay safe and warm.

Yea...i left the house. Stay elsewhere.

Lost your power? Be smart. Pitch a tent in the living room and camp out. It will be 60 degrees inside the tent easily Just keep the moisture from condensing on the inside of the tent. Have fun for Christ's sake.

I saw a bunch of posts of people doing this and apparently it really works!

Have you seen the candles between two cinderblocks with a terra cotta pot over the top? I've read that really works too.

You are beautiful enough to light up any room. Hot enough to keep it hot hot hot.

why on earth didn't I think of that? Of course I guess it helps if you have a tent...

I've seen this too. I went to put together the stuff for it, just in case, and of course all I had was the candles. Thank goodness I have a gas fireplace.

Of course it works...I wouldn't give shitty advice. I camp out in the winter just as frequently as I do in the summer. Plus kids love it. If my daughter is having a sleepover with more than 2...up goes the tent. We even grill marshmallows over a candle.

If you cover the cinder blocks with foil, you would be SHOCKED at how much heat is reflected back. The terra cotta pot holds the heat and acts as a radiator

You can make a tent using the kitchen table and chairs and a dozen blankets. Toss a mattress on the floor...move the table over the mattress. Expand the sides outward using the chairs. Didn't you people make tents inside as kids?

Edit: and read a big exciting chapter book to your kids. They will remember the time as fun.

Cold and wet in Houston, but hey it could be worse.

Power has been off and on but still have fireplace and gas grill outside

Just got my power back on in the Hill Country, still no water. It's finally above 50 degrees in my house for the first time in days. The local hospital has no water. I used my grill to make dinner for me and my neighbors last night and we dined by candlelight! It was cold grilling outside, but well worth it.

Stay warm and safe fellow Texans!

Yes there are many that are not doing as well as they weren't prepared for no power and no water for this long. Having a gas fireplace and gas grill for cooking and heating always helps.

Just hoping they can keep the power on for more people here.

Texas is just not prepared for such cold temps.
