Thousands of Repubs leaving the party...wonder why?

Yep.

Dozens of former Bush officials leave Republican Party, calling it 'Trump cult'

(Reuters) - Dozens of Republicans in former President George W. Bush’s administration are leaving the party, dismayed by a failure of many elected Republicans to disown Donald Trump after his false claims of election fraud sparked a deadly storming of the U.S. Capitol last month.

Kristopher Purcell, who worked in the Bush White House’s communications office for six years, said roughly 60 to 70 former Bush officials have decided to leave the party or are cutting ties with it, from conversations he has been having. “The number is growing every day,” Purcell said.

“If it continues to be the party of Trump, many of us are not going back,” Rosario Marin, a former Treasurer of the U.S. under Bush, told Reuters. “Unless the Senate convicts him, and rids themselves of the Trump cancer, many of us will not be going back to vote for Republican leaders.”

Two former Bush officials who spoke to Reuters said they believe it is important to stay in the party to rid it of Trump’s influence.

One of those, Suzy DeFrancis, a veteran of the Republican Party who served in administrations including those of former presidents Richard Nixon and George W. Bush, said she voted for Biden in November but that breaking the party apart now will only benefit Democrats.

“I totally understand why people are frustrated and want to leave the party. I’ve had that feeling for 4 years,” DeFrancis said.

“We have QAnon members of Congress. It’s appalling,” Purcell said.

What I'm worried about: okay, the sensible people would leave the party, but would uninformed voters notice, or keep habitual voting?

It really is astounding that the Republican Party continues to embrace Trump and his most deplorable cult followers. I mean, they lost the Presidency, then spent two months trying to overturn the election results, lost two Senate races in Georgia, and capped it all off with a violent insurrection at the Capitol during a joint session of Congress. Now their goons at the state level are trying to eliminate democracy.

Yeah, not the type of Party that welcomes rationality.

Many of us said this would happen...chickens flail about for a while when decapitated.and twitch for a good bit.

Repubs are twitching a tiny little bit...RIP!

RINO's from progressive states leave the GOP.....LOL GTFO!!! No loss for the cause.

Yep.

"sensible people" = Democrats.....LOL

The "uninformed" voters aren't "uninformed" they know that...and they want the (D) boot lickers the fuck out of the party.

Cheney, the Bush's, Romney etc....all these 'democrats from 2 years ago' RINO's?? Are fuckin' out. They have lost the faith of their constituents and you're going to see a fuck load more like Trump.

If you're going to support (D)'s and take up (D) causes? You're in the WRONG party.....get on board or get the fuck out.

In 4 years Ted Cruz is going to be a moderate (R)...if that's even still a thing at that point.

If what is left in the Republican party is like you?

They will be unelectable for decades - and that is BAD for the US.

Yes!!! Purge that party of disbelievers!!! It was getting too big, anyway. :)

They're leaving because the majority of republicans dont buy into Qanon bullshit. They need to surround themselves with the sounds of idiocy.

Tons of liberals from social to libertarian on the (R) side of things....so yea they are going to be a lot more like me.

A lot less "Democrats from 2 years ago" RINO.

They will be unelectable for decades - and that is BAD for the US.

Then why are they being elected currently??

How did Trump happen? After the great GOD KING Obama (R)'s were never supposed to hold office anywhere in the country ever again. "the GOP is done for!!" they crowed for 2 years....and we took congress back and delivered Trump.

The left....DESPITE abusing and holding the nation hostage over their disagreement with democracy, managed to beat Trump by a weee 140,000 votes.

You really think it's THAT impossible for him or his surrogate to make a come back?? You think those that voted for him are all gone and suddenly embracing the wonders of socialism now that his Highness Biden has been installed?

LOL get real bubba.....2 years.... the left better get out and vote their fucking ass off like it's the end of the god damn world, because it will be for them if they don't. ;)

One would think that the folks who argue that the election was won by

only

48,000 votes

Would need all the votes they could get...oh, well🤷

Have any Repubs been elected since the Capitol invasion?

The next election I'm aware of is a special election to replace the Rep.-elect from Louisiana who died of covid. The Republicans will win that one for sure, but that doesn't mean anything.

Thousands left the Republican Party when Trump abandoned our Kurdish allies in Syria.

Thousand more left when Trump was caught on tape calling our men and women in uniform "losers" and "suckers"

And now thousands more are leaving because Trump incited a violent mob to attack the U.S. Capitol.

The Republican Party is getting smaller and smaller. And the number of American businesses that are willing to donate money to the Republican Party is getting smaller and smaller as well.

If this trend continues, the Republican Party is going to end up even smaller than the Green Party.

140k votes the other way and (D)s lose everything....congress by just a few thousand votes.

You guys aren't as far ahead as you like to imagine.

And if your congress and WH don't do a superb job? (LMFAO!!!) we'll take back congress in 2 years. :)

We can hope!

Problem is: In the American system you can no more "leave" a political party than you can "join" it -- no party cards, no membership dues, no means to expel a member. You can register for a party, but all that means is you get to vote in its primary. In the general election, everyone faces a wide-open choice. The Dems can only win the votes of these "ex"-Republicans by presenting candidates they can accept, and that would take the party in the opposite direction from where it, and the country, needs to go.
