The most unexpected thing happened today...

I got called Princess in a affectionate tone by one of our homeless clients, an older lady. She was so warm and sweet, in that moment she felt like an older sister to me, and I know that she felt the connection, too.

Unprompted, and without knowing what a treat it was for me to be called that, it was quite touching.

I’m going to sum up first so I can better discuss.

The 6 qualities the writer says are important for a submissive to bring into conversations where the sub is communicating their needs to their dominant-type are (1) humility, (2) politeness, (3) diplomacy, (4) radical honesty, (5) trust, and (6) service. The writer explains a little about what they mean after naming each and adds why they think it is important for the communication.

So... what do I think? I totally have issues with bringing up things I need from my relationships. I’ve gotten better, though, but still don’t know if I could or would or can follow all of these suggestions. I get being radically honest with your Dom The most - I am, but in a way that works for me. I also think these conversation suggestions are kinda universal to any needs-based discussion (though we can argue the service aspect a bit).

Over the years, I found I have two voices in these conversations: one that says all the things I think and need quite easily, and the other that frets over things I need to say that might not be what they want to hear, so I work it up in my brain until they ask what’s wrong or I explode. Yeah... I need to work more on my diplomacy too, BFG.

Very good article and very insightful, if a dominant is a true dominant and not just on an ego trip they will know and understand how to get their submissive to communicate, but it takes time and patience and doesn’t happen over night, if a dominant can get a submissive to truly submit then they will also learn how to get them up communicate. In my experience a submissive feels more loved and cherished in a D/s relationship than most feel in a vanilla relationship

Thank you for summing it up, Moochie!

As I read each of the qualities and the advice given, I compared it to myself. "Do I do this? What if I tried that?"

Communication sometimes is the hardest thing to navigate, maybe that's why it's so intimidating when it has to be done. Let's face it, we have to communicate each and every day. But...the big things - the needs we have, the feelings, the things that irritate us and need to be hashed out - those can be scary.

What if I say something about this need and he laughs or, worse, walks away?

There were some good pointers there in 'radical honesty' that make things seem less combative...always a good stepping stone.

I love when thought-provoking (or potentially thought- provoking) things are posted here. :)

Reading through that, I am not sure I 100% agree with all of the points in Diplomacy, but I'm looking at it from something of a different angle than the writer. But I think in any relationship, YMMV when it comes to what the writer was getting at there. That is something that is going to be extremely relationship- specific.

Otherwise, I reserve other comments for the moment.

I was singing in the car on the way home.

Found online and altered for my/our pleasure

1. The Kitten is not allowed in the house.
2. OK, the Kitten is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms.
3. The Kitten is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture.
4. The Kitten can get on the old furniture only.
5. Fine, the Kitten is allowed on all the furniture, but is not allowed to sleep with Daddy on the bed.
6. OK, the Kitten is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation.
7. The Kitten can sleep on the bed when-ever she wants, but not under the covers.
8. The Kitten can sleep under the covers, but by invitation only.
9. The Kitten can sleep under the covers every night.
10. Daddy must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the Kitten.
