What types of of ropes are used to tie wrists??? More broadly, I am talking about very light bondage that is rather mild and tame. I’m also thinking of it in a relationship context. I’m most referring to heterosexual couples where the woman is dominant.

People use a lot of different types of rope for restraints. I'm not the most knowledgeable on the subject. Hopefully some that are more knowledgeable will share some information or their experiences. I've been tied with natural fiber rope and synthetic fiber rope. My biggest advice is to have something to cut the rope in case of emergency. I've read more information here as well as in groups on fetlife. There are some great guides.

Frankly, Sign54, this is too broad of a question. And I'm not sure just what the Rigger being female and the ropebunny male has to do with what rope is used.

There are synthetics available, but most rope snobs tend to prefer natural fibers. I suppose most often you will see a preference for hemp, jute, or blends amongst Shibari practitioners, however there are cotton and silk blends available. A lot of it comes down to taste. And the actual goal of the rope play.

As an example, for some, they need the gritty abrasiveness to cause minor burns and abrasions to be felt for days afterward more than the actual restrain itself (hence why I got annoyed when a submissive described herself as a bunny but wouldn't answer my further questions on the subject prior to play and decided I was the one who didn't understand rope play because I was trying to ascertain her personal relationship with rope) while others can't abide it but still want something more... ah... intricate than a pair of smith and wesson steel wrist and ankle restraints (chain, never hinged) and metal chains or velcro or silk ties or leather belts.

And, yeah. As ultramarineblue said, anyone who tries to Rig without some sort of safety cutter within immediate reach is NOT SAFE. Seconds can matter. Rope can always be replaced. She... or in this case he... can't.

weeeeeeelllllll...

I agree with A, you’ve asked a SUPER broad question.

I’ve decided to simply give you the recommendation for anyone just getting into tied bondage or just want to stay light:

1. Keep it cheap - you won’t be losing much if you pick up some basic, thin (3/8”) nylon from the hardware store and find out it wasn’t fun for either partner. You can also get real cheap cotton online (amazon anyone?) that is much more flexible and forgiving as well as comes in fun colours.

2. Be playful and imaginative - maybe use a silk tie you’re not super fond of. This will be both free and feel more “in the moment.”

3. Look at some basic tutorials before jumping in - double column tie for those wrists together would be easiest.

4. Be safe - always have something to cut with nearby, be aware of nerves near where you’re tying and avoid pressure/knots against them.

Good luck and have fun!

Unless someone learns some intricate knots, ties around wrists usually get too tight for good circulation. Maybe get some nice leather or nylon wrist restraints with velcro and attach the ropes with carabiners. And I've been using and tying people with ropes since my early teen years. Have been in a couple bdsm clubs where I've seen folks' appendages turning blue or purple in a short period of time. The advice about having something sharp to cut ropes is good. Scissors can take too long.

Ummm... hi. Please note where I said “look at tutorials first” and the part about a double column (the second tie anyone should learn after single columns because of its ease), which, when done correctly, wouldn’t be able to tighten (as you would know since you’ve been tying since your teens).

"Look at tutorials first"- yea that will work. Some of us learned before tutorials existed, but to each his/her own.

I'm .. really not into bondage, as such. But, well, it seems 'light bondage' of wrists and so on is 'anything you have to hand' or silk scarves if you're going out to buy anything.

Then, far as I can tell, you gratuate to climbing rope, which is apparently the only other level.

I'm fairly certain there are specialist scenes besides; rubber, leather, all sorts of harness, stocks and so on.

Yes... and some of us are answering the OP’s question while others are just being rude. This isn’t about you and how you had to climb uphill both ways to school barefoot before you learned how to tie a basic knot, this is about the OP’s question: what rope can be used for tying wrists and for ‘light bondage’ with a romantic partner?

I’ve answered the question. You have just heckled my answers. Perhaps you would like to actually make an effort to help the OP? I mean, you have sooooo much untapped experience...

Okay, I apologize. You offered an explicit answer, to which I disasgreed. My point was the type of knots you suggested with multiple wraps around larger, fleshy wrists would restrict circulation. Then add the center wraps around the wrist/ankle /knee wraps they get even tighter. I maintain these shibari rope ties are too intricate for a newbie, when used on a larger type person. And I didn't like to go barefoot. Take care.

This is not going to restrict circulation. This is not an intricate knot... and I’m sorry, but “on a larger type person?” Since when does size matter in BDSM? Can’t anyone, no matter their body type, enjoy being tied? I think safety is important too, but so does the OP who acknowledged the need to safeword if necessary in these new scenarios (rope) for them.

They asked about rope around the wrists. I answered. You countered with restraints instead, but that’s not what they asked. You still haven’t answered their question and continue to attack me. I am leaving this thread now.

Good luck, OP.

I'm still wondering about the hetero couple with dominant woman part of the equation. Are you thinking it's easier for a woman to handle certain types of rope than guys because of hand size??

Anyhoo

I like vet tape. Easy, sticky without being gooey. It's cheap. We had a scissors on hand because it's not always easy to find the beginning to unwind. Comes in fun colors, too.

vet tape!

Sign54, what did you choose eventually? How did it turn out? Was bondage fun?

My experience, for what its worth...

If you're just testing the waters and aren't super familiar with this yet, might I suggest silk ribbon rather than rope?

A wide ribbon can be tied in a loose bow, looks pretty but is easily escapable. I started with this and the color and texture helped a lot with my comfort level. I suppose it depends on what your intentions and end goal are too.

I read the question as a writer wanting info for story.
I'd suggest jute or hemp that's been treated so its softer. Synthetic rope tends to be harder to tie and slips if the bunny fights. Your scenario is suggesting a man is the bunny, if he is strong he might stretch a nylon cuff so it slips.

If you're going for realism where you position the hands will be more important for readers who have an understanding of rope bondage. In front or behind and wrists together or elbows at 90 degrees and tied lower arms.

A fast secure simple cuff is a hojo cuff and can be worn for long periods of time as not tight on the wrist but also not easy to get out of

Would love to try this but in a sexless marriage so i know it's not going to happen .:(
Any ladies want to step up ? lol:rolleyes:
