Firstly, hello! I'm new here and I'm dipping my toe in the erotic literature world.

I've been writing a story and I wondered where the best place is to get some initial thoughts on the first 850 or so words. It's not yet finished so I don't think I should be submitting it through the submissions form (I think this is only for finished stories?), but I'd love to share it with readers to get some initial feedback, if that's possible. Can I just paste it here, or have a missed a dedicated thread/board for this kind of request?

Thanks!

It will help if you tell people what genre you intend to post it on. Since you admit it's not finished, then word count doesn't matter. But some will only read certain genre.

Hi,

Nice getting to know you!

No, there's no possibility of putting unfinished work on this website (unless it's a completed chapter). You can only put short pieces of text, a few paragraphs, for people to check, in case you have specific questions, but this might not be the right board for that. Short, specific questions are always welcome.

You can ask for beta-readers or editors; this:
https://forum.literotica.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9
would be the appropriate place to do so.

Welcome; feel free to mingle in other threads on this and other boards, and looking forward to see your stories appearing!

Thanks RubenR! This is really helpful - I appreciate your time :) I'll finish the chapter I'm working on so I can submit it, then hopefully I'll be able to get some feedback. And I'll definitely check out the beta-readers/editors forum as well. Thanks a lot!

Good luck with your story.

My suggestion would be to do the best you can, submit the story, and then solicit feedback in the story feedback forum. If you want help before publishing it you can ask for help in the editing forum, or approach an author you like for editing help. You are much more likely to get help if you let people know what type of story it is.

Thanks Simon - I appreciate the feedback! I'm beavering away so I can share it soon :)

Couple of thoughts as a relatively new author myself. Before sending something to someone else to read, do two things. One, run your work through a grammar checker. Grammarly is ok, but I prefer ProWritingAid. Both are free but I find the latter catches more things and it also has settings for different versions of English (UK, US, Can & Aus).

Secondly, use the read aloud function of Word or some app that will read your story to you. I find a number of simple typos pop out this way that other checkers might not see like form vs from.

This way when you send it out for a beta read, the reader can focus in on the story, and not worry about being a low level grammarian for you.

And if you are still looking for a beta reader, PM me and I'll take a look at your work.:)
