If you're under 35, the GOP hasn't won the presidential popular vote since you've been of voting age.

Repubs love the electoral college as much as they love local gerrymandering.

So??? We're a federalized union of states, not a unitary state.

Thus the "United States" not the "Peoples Unified Democratic Republic of".

Yes Repubs enjoy having states and rights as opposed to some mob rule direct democracy headed by some communist autocrat.

That's why the left hates them so very very much.

Great, just so you realize that the GOP wins from technicalities, voter disenfranchisement, and district manipulation rather than the sentiment and consent of the general populace....

No, I realize that you don't understand what the USA is, why it came to be or how it operates.

Your mistake is in your assumption that the USA is a unitary state that was supposed to be run on the sentiment and consent of the general populace and simple majority gets WHATEVER the fuck it wants.

It's not....that's just not how shit works here nor was it ever intended to be anything of the sort.

Lol. Where did I misconstrue how it works or why?

It's the whole premise of your thread.

That there is something wrong with not being a simple majority ruled unitary state.

Further confirmed by your follow up post.

Again, implying that there is something wrong with the fact that states elect POTUS, not the general populace.

Unless your whole point was to imply that power checks on democracy so that big population states don't bully small population states was a good thing???

Didn't seem like it though.

So you have a problem with the facts I stated in my original post?
You're twisting yourself into a pretzel over an uncomfortable truth.

You seem to be trolling yourself.

Nope, and I'm not uncomfortable with that truth at all and openly promote it.

All the discomfort about that truth seems to come from the left actually :) lots of teeth gnashing and foot stamping about it in threads like this for example.

I'm just wondering why having states and a federal system with a representative democracy is such a problem for a group of people who supposedly LOVE that system WAY more than the evil (R)'s do???

Minority rule? Nice. I'm sure that's what the founders had in mind.

Are you against non-male, non-white, landless constituents voting too? Originalism now!

Please remember that FF is a sociopath who is "fine" with the status quo of systemic racism, gross wealth disparity, republican corruption, etc, and is most likely on an FBI watchlist for his views on Governor Whitmer's attempted kidnapping. You can't expect him to support the notion of true democracy. The electoral college is as outdated as most of the Republican Party.

SAD!!!

If you really wish to paint him into a corner, ask him how he cannot denounce the planned attempt to over throw a duly elected government politician ( in reality he has posted support of the attempt), yet he denounce's the ( supposed) violent activities of protesters limited to ones such as BLM ( though not the KKK or BB etc).

He will just walk out of the corner and spread his painted foot prints everywhere, but it will help show how much of a self indulged sociopath he actually is.

State rule and states rights, because the USA is a federal union of states, not a unitary state. States are more than just lines on a map for fun, when will you lefties figure that out??

They put all of that in the Constitution rather explicitly and then protected it in the Bill of Rights again very explicitly.

So yea, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they had in mind.

Oh look, you don't know what originalism is either, I'm totally shocked!!

IDGAF about race or gender. I would support only property owners/veterans being allowed to vote though.

You're absolutely right!! We don't support the notion of true democracy. Perhaps if you learned to read FF JUST STATED FACT, we are a republic which consist of 50 states unitary in governance which fall under a fed umbrella and a supremacy clause. If you want to live under a unitary democracy move to England and take Butters with you!! :D:rolleyes:

That should be proof to everyone
Its not we the people
Its the corporations

Who do you think the corporations are?? Some mystical boogeymane???

Laz....still making shit up because he can't argue his politics on their merit, so as with most leftist he resorts to baseless name calling.

Why would I support "true" (simple majority/absolute totalitarian wrath of the majority) democracy?? It's fucking horrible and needs to be chained to a fuckin' legal wall with very short chains.

Lol. You really are a fringe looney, aren't you?

No, I'm a liberal....leaning social liberal.

I'm not an equity obsessed communist who fanboys for Maoism (modern "progressives")though, which is probably why you think I'm fringe.

Most Maoist (progressives) do think liberals like myself are "Fringe" and "EXTREME REICH WING!!!" yet there is nothing of the sort in my views.

The constitution grants to all equal rights under the law.

WTF Canada is closer, and is more aligned with US in so many more ways than England is.:)

Butters would be most welcome, you and FF can fuck off and rot away in the social sludge pile you both are so willing to support...:D

I didn't say what kind of fringe looney you are. Let's just say you are not aligned with most of the American public. It's obvious by the way you like the idea of disenfranchizing everyone but land owners and military personel. Where else in the world do they do that?

Yes we both support the USA and know you and the other "progressives" fucking hate it.

Canada is more aligned with the US, WOULDN'T THAT MAKE YOU A SOCIAL SLUDGE PILE BY DEFINITION :D

Oh look, you don't know what originalism is either, I'm totally shocked!!

"In the context of United States law, originalism is a concept regarding the interpretation of the Constitution that asserts that all statements in the constitution must be interpreted based on the original understanding "at the time it was adopted".

Where did I go wrong?

Okay, this is actually incorrect. I just did the math:

If you're 35 in 2020 you were born in 1985 and reached the legal voting age in 2003. In 2004 George W. Bush won re-election 62,028,285 (50.7%) v. John Kerry 59,028,109 (48.3%).

If you're under 50, you were born in 1970 and reached the legal voting age in 1988.

In 1988 George HW Bush won the election with 48,886,097 (53.4%) v. Michael Dukakis 41,809,074 (45.7%).

So, both statements are, in fact, falso.
