Potential challenge: 50 quickies (sex in all states)

Greetings from the US! I was thinking about organizing an authors' challenge based on stories set in all 50 states (one story per state, please). The only rule would be that the story would have to include details specific to one of the 50 U.S. states.

Folks would be welcome to submit multiple stories (set in different states, of course). Writers not based in the U.S. absolutely welcome - we have the internet for a reason. :)

Two questions:
Would anyone be interested in trying this?
Would a signup sheet with all 50 work? No sense in having 15 Californias and no Utahs, for instance.

I'm thinking next March would be the target date range - after the holiday and Valentine's Day contests.

Thoughts, pro or con? Advice? Slander?
(Bueller? Bueller?)

I think it's a cool idea, but you're limiting it to 50 authors, 50 stories, 50 states (plus DC?). That might or might not go over well. I've got an idea for a story that I've partially developed that would fit well within this concept.

How about this: You cannot choose a state that's already been chosen IF there are still states that are unchosen. Once all 50 states are chosen, you can still enter and write a story set in a state that's been chosen. I don't know whether it's realistic to expect 50 people to enter or not.

I know which state I would choose, and it's not the state I live in.

That's perfect - what I was thinking, but didn't express.

I don't expect 50 folks to enter. I bet a couple of our prolific writers, like Oggbashan and KeithD, could easily knock off a dozen each if they were inclined. :)

Another thought might be to open it to already-published stories, but I don't know if that's possible. (If it is, I've got Ohio and Pennsylvania covered.)

50 states (plus DC?).

And the Virgin Islands? (the one I'm writing now is set there) or Guam? (I've recently written two set there)

From a rough check, I think I could cover about a dozen states from the stories I have waiting in the wings.

Including US territories would certainly open things up a bit more, so why not?

I think we need to handicap you. We'll give you North Dakota and Oklahoma and see how you do.

(Apologies to you Sooners and Dakotans!)

Just for kicks I checked on how many states I've used for locales in stories posted to Lit. in 2020. Although most of my stories are set outside the United States, I used seventeen of them (including D.C.) this year so far: Florida, California, Virginia, North Carolina, Wisconsin, New York, Colorado, Illinois, Washington, D.C., Michigan, New Jersey, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Missouri. The next story I have to add after my current American Revolution series (set in New York) is set in yet another one, Vermont.

I worked a lot in Oklahoma in a previous job, and I am convinced it's one of the horniest states in the country. There's a sex toys/lingerie chain that has more than a dozen well-marked and well-advertised stores throughout the state. I've never seen anything like that anywhere else.

North Dakota? I got nothin'.

I set a story in Tulsa not long ago. It hasn't been posted anywhere yet.

I've been in most states. I've avoided Oklahoma, though, since decades ago, I had a cousin living there picked up and tossed a long way away in a trailer. Messed her up for life and killed her baby. I see no need to be in tornado alley either as a resident or a visitor.

When I read the title of this thread I thought the challenge was to have sex in all 50 states.

So did I, which would be a little much for anyone to accomplish--either in one story or doing fifty at one crack for this.

I considered doing a series called "Collect All Fifty" about this, but realized I don't have the discipline. I feel like I'd hit a wall after a couple of dozen.

As for real life, 25 down, 25 (or more, if you count DC and the territories) to go. That's a challenge I can spend the rest of my life on.

Yeah, I was in the Army in Oklahoma and other states. The Oklahoma strip clubs just off-post were very high-quality, especially compared to North Carolina.

North Dakota has lots of snowbound cabins, remote car breakdowns, lonely ranchers, and other convenient Lit setpieces that can be adapted. And? "Going Too Far In Fargo" is just a great title...

Plus, Fargo's neighboring town is Moorhead, MN.

Get it?

Moor Head?

Do sovereign nations. 195 should be enough for everyone.

Maybe we should do an Aussie version. I’ll do Tassie, you can do NSW, SJ has QLD, and whoever gets the short straw does the ACT.

Add in the Antarctic, Lord Howe Island, Christmas Island, etc. Could be interesting. :D

Map of Agassi’s is just too easy! ACT would just be politicians getting their rocks off!

Getting back to the original concept, perhaps ensuring each Lit category is represented too- cross dressing in Utah, incest in Minnesota nice!

The short straw? ACT is perfect for a sex story; there's nothing else to do there!

I seem to have Texas covered from one end to the other after 250 stories. Oklahoma ain't no problem. It's just more of Texas without a lot of the bullshit. ;)

Maybe you should try a five of fifty in one story challenge. :D

Pretty well have that covered, except it took me over 40 years to accomplish and then I would be dead before I finished the story. :(

50 states is cool. How about sex in different models of automobiles?

I've probably tried a couple dozen ... :)
