Simple question.

Best TV theme song of all time and why?

That is not a simple question. There are many good choices. There is interesting reuse of a songs, such as Supernatural, Kansas - Wayward Son, or creative reproductions, then countless solid instrumental compositions that have stood or will stand the test of time. There is also the contradiction of what is my favorite versus what might actually be the best, they will not be one in the same. My personal favorite will not be the best.

I think the best would need to have been an original, be catchy enough that lyrics stick, would need to cross generations, be known for a significant length of time following the show, charted in multiple countries, played a significant part of the culture of that time etc. Things that jump out because of checking those boxes are like Friends - Rembrandts - I'll be There for You, The Monkees, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (that show and song combination changed Will Smith, The Fresh Prince, from a mediocre Pop rapper to the empire of Will Smith). In the end though, I think I have to give it to Cheers, Gary Portnoy - Where Everybody Knows Your Name. I think it checks all the boxes, was well written and performed, and I don't dislike it.

Not that these are the best, but some favourites jump to mind. Scrubs, Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, Suits... Apparently the S's.

Y'all will probably think I'm insane. But my favorite theme song of all time is this one. I adored this show when I was young. And the theme song is just all around feel-good smiley music.

I can no easier pick a favorite child! Wait no. I only have one child.

Best shows, broadly
- sex and the city: character development is second to none. The first season is sugar. The end few seasons were fantastic and meaningful.
- handmaid’s tale: the most compelling show I’ve ever seen.
- John Oliver: some of the best use of social science research in mass media.
- schitt’s creek: funniest one liners ever. ‘Social media is an amusement park for clinical narcissists’.

I'll excuse this list since you obviously haven't seen The Wire.

So far everyone has been wrong. There can be only one great theme song in TV history and this is it.

The lyrics are spot on to the theme of the show and at a certain point they even sing the notes!
