What if Derek Chauvin is acquitted?

Can Derek Chauvin receive a fair trial on the murder charges he faces over George Floyd's death? It's a fair question considering the nationwide public anger and now hyper-politicized context of this tragedy.

Even then, convicting Chauvin on any of the three killing-related charges he faces will not be easy.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who is leading the charge in prosecuting Chauvin, aims to suggest otherwise. Ellison, a self-promoting politician to the Left of the Democratic Party mainstream is likely in his present office as a stepping stone to the governorship. Ellison's rhetoric reflects his interest in being both politician and prosecutor, a Robespierre for the people's anger. He is promising results.

Ultimately, however, we should not expect this trial to deliver a quick conviction. There is a chance that Chauvin and his fellow officers may be acquitted on all charges.

If Chauvin is acquitted he'll be retried in Federal Court.

There's little chance of that however.

It would be about par for the course for the flawed justice system.

Maybe some day Trump people will understand Kaepernick's kneeling.

Civil war.

Fortunately many Americans are arming themselves. Massive upsurge in gun sales.

However, without proper training and frequent practice these new gun owners are no better off than they were before the purchase.

There is no way those officers are going to get a fair trial in Minneapolis so the first thing a competent defense attorney is going to do is file for a change of venue. The officers will then have the possibility of a fair hearing.

Acquittals are possible for one or all of the officers. "Beyond a reasonable doubt" along with jury unanimity are high bars.

Should they be acquitted the Feds then have the option of stepping in with civil rights violations and civil court is not only an option but damn near a certainty.

I think that we will see real and positive change long before his trial commences.

Some have suggested defunding the police. That, along with eliminating the criminal court system would move things in a positive direction.

Justice will always be flawed. The system needs a re-boot. That starts with turning it Off.

This is the second solution I am offering up today but no one has the balls to back it up.

Acquitted or convicted, won't change thing in the States, racist attitudes in the US are systemic, just look here on the BB. Has anyone changed their views? Nope....

Sorry but Kaepernick is an IDIOT!

Very good point. There will never be peace.

The same thing can be said for gender and sexual identity issues. Age discrimination is also a huge issue.

Calls for tolerance and understanding are wasted. Talk is cheap. Action is preferable.

Bias is everywhere.

Trump doesn't have a fucking thing to do with it moron.

"Trump people" like you.

Trump people that refused to understand the simple message that his kneeling represented. It was a peaceful way to call attention to the fact that all people are not equal in the eyes of the law. That attention needed to be paid to police brutality and systemic racial injustice. And you people called him unamerican. You people took away his job. And you people sent him death threats.

And for the record, Trump himself does have much to do with it. Far too much to keep the Office of the President of the United States. From the moment he vilely called for more police brutality to his condoning of white nationalist acts.

If he is acquitted the US will burn for a few more weeks and more innocent cops will be murdered. Why even ask such a dumb question?

Obama people are either too stupid or dishonest to acknowledge that the narrative is untrue and was promoted specifically for political advantage.

He said trump people, like you. IE :ignorant boomers.

Would you rather someone with social power, so to speak, takes a peaceful knee to protest or do you prefer the looting and rioting method? Neither seems to convince you guys that there is a problem with the way police treat and interact with african americans.
It's almost unanimous in the black community that they get treated worst and are harassed more, yet stubborn old fucks like you refuse to see that there is a problem. So, burn that bitch down I say!

Everyone else has the brains not to back it up.

Maybe you don't understand. If this fails it will be because Keith Ellison couldn't bring his charges home to the jury. As was suggested earlier by an astute poster, maybe this is Ellison's intent in order to further tear down the country he hates.
