Of course that's pretty much what they said about the Swine Flu as well. It does allow their government to deflect any criticism of their own delayed and insufficient response to the outbreak.

South East Asia in general and China in particular has been the source of virtually every influenza outbreak in recorded history. Look to Africa to become another source in the future. The "Hot Zone" and closely packed human populations is a petri dish for these outbreaks.

On a very serious note, c-virus is going to have a huge impact on the economy. It's largest victim base is going to be the baby boomers. They are mostly in management positions and our medical system has been gearing up to care for them by creating more healthcare jobs. If they all start dying off prematurely then it will create a lot of unemployment in that field. I am not sure about where most of you live but here, most folks work in one of three medical systems. Medical jobs have replaced factory work.
Now that is something to discuss!

First of all covid-19 isn't all that bad. Unless you're elderly and/or have underlying respiratory issues it's just another flu. Not worthy of the panic we see.

I think you'll find that when healthcare systems are exceeding capacity helping those pesky elderly and otherwise infirm, there actually are quite negative implications for the rest of the population.

2 to 14 days according to the CDC. But the extended incubation period makes it harder to contain. That being said although it's too early to tell but the number of new cases reported has dropped off dramatically. I would have expected to see a rather dramatic acceleration during this early stage. Hopefully it stays that way.

The coronavirus is a real problem but the hype about it is a fake news hoax that is hurting millions. They are using it like they used the fake Russia hoax to try to stop Trump and regain the power over other people that they crave.

The Chinese are fueling the hoax because they want Trump's economy to decline just before the election. They also see how the fake news outlets in the USA are using it to beat on Trump. So, fools will be fooled.
