Virus, economies, and oil.

In 2009-10 80 million US citizens were infected with the H1N1 (swine fly) virus. 300,00 were hospitalized and over 17,000 died. No panic then............of course the media wasn't trying to panic anyone and every one. What's so different about this virus?

glad you asked! This is a new virus, easy to spread and asymptomatic for the majority of people under 60. It's a "sudden onset" virus, meaning symptoms occur (usually sky high fever) very quickly in geriatrics such as yourself.

You attempted a pathetic deflection to swine flu but failed to realize that the swine flu could be quarantined much easier than covid-19, symptoms were slow onset it was identified quicker and people could be quarantined. Th 17,000 died over a period of 24 months.

Trump's insistence on treating this as a public relations problem instead of a public health problem allowed the virus to get established in America. It is expected to spread exponentially now, and there is a very real danger of overwhelming hospital beds available in the short term.

So, the bottom line is....keep calling it a hoax, and try to die with dignity when you contract it.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/2009-h1n1-pandemic.html

From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

You're in the ballpark, but on the high side of it.

Apples (flu) and oranges (corona) though.

Not really, CDC isn't the only source although I should have stated "up to 17,000 deaths."

Based on this method, the CDC estimated that from April 2009 through mid-April 2010 between 8,870 and 18,300 deaths, between 43 million and 89 million cases, and between 195,000 and 403,000 H1N1-related hospitalizations had occurred in the United States.

Yup, Obama was president then. Made ALL the difference in the world.

Fucking morons.

Are you stuck in the space time continuum? You're talking several months over a couple of weeks. Fucking moron.

Yes, Obama was President ...

We'll compare numbers again in 12 months.

Silly girl, don't you remember the last time Ishmael was challenged to revisit something a year later?

He got his balls kicked in then, too, and he spluttered for two solid days "Old news! OLD NEWS! You need to MOVE ON from this!"

They seem to gloss over the fact that being Asymptomatic for 14 days make this virus a completely different animal.

2 to 14 days according to the CDC. But the extended incubation period makes it harder to contain. That being said although it's too early to tell but the number of new cases reported has dropped off dramatically. I would have expected to see a rather dramatic acceleration during this early stage. Hopefully it stays that way.

Trump has smart people around him. If you read Trump bashing, just walk on by, isn't worth reading.

Not exactly.
That's part of the charm of the GB, people turning everything into and often losing their shit over the Trump versus Obama bashings. :D

I haven't kept up with the US healthcare news to know what that's about, but I see that even the coronavirus topic ?? has morphed into Trump bashing (it would have been the same, had it been Obama).

As to COVID, I think that most moderate laypeople take a middle approach: it's a serious pandemic, given our aged popullations,
but the panic also generated some dangerous things: https://www.rt.com/news/482797-indian-poultry-farmer-coronavirus/

We'll compare numbers again in 12 months.

Tell you what; hows about you get the MSM on board the Trump train to the same extent they were on board the Obama trainwreck and THEN we'll "compare numbers" in 12 months.

Otherwise, what you're doing is comparing a built-up Presidency to one that's being continually bashed by the same media outlets and trying to blame all the negative results on the one who's being bashed instead of the ones doing the bashing.

The media is doing its job, just like it did during the Great Recession. They are reacting to incompetence the same now as it did then - aggressively. Fox News, for one, showed Obama no mercy.

Obama's administration approached the illness as something serious. Trump has been in denial that it even exists. You reap what you sow.

Get over it ... Or don't. *shrugs*

It's not my fault you can't keep up.

I think we're on to something here. I've also substituted "Housesquaw" for "Spearechucker", and "NotIshmael" for "bellisarius" amongst other things.

Trump's influenza comparison

Apparently CDC haven't even released data on the effectiveness of the vaccine for the 2019-20 US flu season aka how many of the affected got the vaccine, and if not - why? (personal choice or shortcomings of the health system?)

Yet Trump pontificated on things that are waay out of his expertise. He looked dumb.

And why this comparison? To contain mass hysteria, or to justify that he hasn't allocated sufficient funds?

On the really bright side is the 8% mortality rate among seniors... since 67% of the voters over the age of 65 are republicans... Fauci estimates that 50% of the population will contract COVID-19...
Let's see... 47 million seniors... 50% of them is say 24 million... 8% of that is what... 1.92 million voters... 67% is 1.3 million republicans v 650k democrats... a projected net loss of 650,000 republican votes... in predominantly all the right states. Hmmm... maybe God sent COVID-19

You are an ass.

But I don't wish death on you.

May God have mercy on you.
