I've written the first draft of a somewhat romantic story about high school friends reuniting, hooking up, and beginning a relationship, but I'm worried the plot and its reliance on anal sex may be too much of a straight male fantasy. I'm hoping I can make it appealing to female readers too - specifically, I want the female character to be at least somewhat believable, the story to be plausible, and the male character to be appealing.
The heroine is a gorgeous goth girl obsessed with monster movies, and she is studying creature effects and makeup. She has had a bit of a glow up since she and the hero knew each other. She is also a moderately successful Instagram influencer.
The hero is a bit less well-defined at present. He's a recent University graduate looking for work, shy and a bit awkward, doesn't realize he's actually very handsome in a scruffy kind of way. He was kind of an insufferable honour roll snob in high school - the idea is that their friendship was an unlikely one and they kind of got along in spite of themselves - and he hopes he has grown out of this.
A major theme of the story is growing up and accepting that we're all still growing, and that it's okay to have made mistakes as a teenager as long as you learned from them.
The story is set in Toronto.
Also a minor content warning that the story contains a throwaway political reference of an anti-Trump variety - specifically, the female lead has "Trump supporters, swipe left" in her dating app profile. I do not intend to remove this line, but I think I should warn everyone it's there because I know some people are sensitive about these things.
So if you identify as a lady, don't find anal sex too gross, don't mind seeing Trump be briefly disparaged, and find this setup at all interesting, please consider helping me workshop this story a little bit.
