Not to get all Psychology 101, but I have always attempted to work out what causes fetishes in the first place. I have quite a substantial bondage fetish and have had so for as long as I can remember. I've always wondered what caused it. For instance, as a toddler I was led around by my parents on one of those little harness things, to avoid me running off. Did that subconsciously contribute to a fetish forming? Who knows, but I've spoken to at least one partner with similar desires who had the same childhood experience.
I saw the Quicksand thread here today, and thought to myself "what caused that fetish, I wonder". It's quite niche, but not the first time I've encountered it, as it is sometimes linked with bondage. Is it the helplessness of the victim? The slowly rising sense of peril? The fact an attractive victim is covered head to foot in something? Perhaps the fact every other kids show when I was growing up seemed to include a quicksand scene somewhere. You don't encounter it much in real life.
Anyway, I'd be interested on people's thoughts regarding this. What is your fetish, and what do you think might have caused it?
