Are noncon omegaverse stories cliche?

I actually really like omegaverse-noncon/dubcon stories. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's just dubious consent werewolf erotica.

While I'm still going to write about a topic that interests me, I'm curious to know what people think about the whole omegaverse/werewolf trend. Is it boring? Cliche? Exciting? Do you get done-to-death, beating-a-dead-horse kind of vibes from stories like that?

I think by incorporating some different world building/qualities to my characters will alleviate some of the cliche-ness, but yeah, I'd just like to see what readers think about it. Thanks! :rose::heart:

Frankly, and I'm just talking for myself, I'm a little tired of the werewolf, vampire, supernatural concepts. There needs to be some ebbing before you get the flow. There's been so much flow lately, that when it tapers off, it might be for good. I like me a good creepy crawly story and such, but its just every story/TV show/movie seems to not get by without putting some supernatural in it. I've just had enough...

Well, here's the thing. I had to look up 'omegaverse-noncon/dubcon'. (OK. maybe I don't get out enough, fine, whatever.) My point is that it may be a cliché for some, but it's a big, wide world out there and a lot of people are probably in my state of innocence WRT 'dubious consent werewolf erotica', so for them, it's definitely not.

There's a fun thing about Literotica (aside from the obvious, yes). Let me quote one comment on my story Zoe.
The wonderful outcome of Literotica events is that readers are guided into areas that otherwise have no appeal for them. The two genres that this talk straddles beautifully are of no interest to me, but this was beautifully written, sweet and full of apprehension and promise. Thank you for what was most unexpected, 5* for me.
My point is that one person's cliché is another's new adventure.

Blatant plug much?

Opposed to that, one comment on one of my stories... er, uh... I got nothing. Nobody says anything witty on my stories.

I lie, but I'll guilt-trip plug for all I'm worth.

Not intended as a plug, just a better explanation than I would have given. The new and novel can bring good results, bring in new readers, get good comment.

I’ve only read a few stories that had sexy werewolves in it, no that I think about.

It wouldn’t be a tired cliche for me. I did get tired of vampires for a while though.

Yeah totally get that. I'm trying to add different details in my story so it's not super tired and true yknow, but it's still supernatural at the end of the day lol. Mixed with a little dystopian-ism and uh...I just feel like I'm copying someone else's story without meaning to.

What about demons/other supernatural entities? What's a popular trend people are reading now?

Hmm true. But it's kind of just like, there's SO many ABO (omegaverse) stories out there. It's a challenge making mine stick out. And I'm not even publishing anything or whatever, I'm just am amateur, I just like writing and want what I'm writing to not be something a million people have done before, if you know what I mean.

I fully understand. I guess reader approval, in terms of rating, comments and feedback, is great, but even better is being able to go back a month after you’ve published it and still like it.

As to ABO (which really ain’t my cup of tea) being a cliché, one could say so is penis-in-vagina. It’s been written over and over, right? The trick is doing it well.

I write the shit out of succubus stories right now. Have been for awhile.

Now what about non-scary supernatural beings? Fey creatures?

Very true! Thanks for the feedback.

I love those stories! I just think it's hard to find ones that are actually well written. Personally, I'd love to write something more fantasy-like with fey creatures, but I definitely have to read up on it. I haven't *any* fey erotica actually so I'm definitely going to look some up, unless you have any recommendations. ;)

I had an idea about a guy who wanders off the path in the woods and inadvertently contracts a companion of unknown nature who returns with him back to civilization she/it obviously doesn't understand. She/it can control her visibility (possibly on per-person basis), but otherwise doesn't use clothes nor have a concept of modesty. In addition, she can closely, but not perfectly, mimic the appearance of other women our guy interacts with. He gradually learn to feel her presence even unseen, and usually see try her mimicry right away, but others may be confused easily.

The goal was to create series of highly confusing and embarrassing situations where the guy finds himself in presence, or worse, of a naked woman in semi-public and public situations potentially highly compromising for the women she/it choose to portray, without much warning nor control over her/it. Divining what she/it wants from the guy or at least how to somewhat domesticate her/it, or even just the true form of her, if there's any, is the story.

You need to write that. It sounds amazing!

Honestly, it was a dead horse the first time I tried reading this type of erotica. The same tropes, the same vibes you would think of off the top of your head without reading - and they never really seem to change amongst the plethora of choices of stories.

I'm with Maeven_quinn - find yourself a pot of ink and sharpen a quill. That has potential written all over it!

Hmm this is true. I think I just have a thing for ABO books. But there's a reason why they're not popular on Literotica, which is probably because most people just don't really like them. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, I have no idea what that means. But IMHO on to the cliche issue: Werewolves/vampires etc have to be cliched.

We know people. We know girls who are untouchable, girls who are easy. We know men who are overbearing, men who...aren't. But no one knows werewolves or vampires, so if you ascribe to them the same range as a normal humans it becomes silly. It could work in the hands of a talented author, but really, can you write a werewolf who is afraid of his own shadow? A vampire that is too timid to talk to a girl? A modest succubus? Readers are going to want their cliches nailed, with only minor trimmings.

I would say, those are exactly the stories worth writing.

Fear driven werewolf can be rather traditional even, powerful but paranoid. Or it could be a remainder from his character before he was turned. Or he's just a objective weakling, drawn in this underworld full of aggression and violence. And at last, but not least, we can project dog traits on werewolves, and I think everyone knows little pocket pet with inflated ego, or that huge powerful guard dog who's just a complete chicken. And by the way, the last is the most dangerous and prone to actually injure humans.

Timid vampire doesn't even sound unusual. Perhaps the guy not only was that way, but also had oversized conscience before he was turned by accident or evil intent, so being vampire not only doesn't help, it generates a lot of guilt to deal with and overcome to satisfy his new vampiric survival instincts. It makes for excellent internal struggle, and asks for a cure or willing suicide (and aren't those the same from a practical viewpoint of a vampire?) as the nominally happy ending.

Modest succubus has a lot of potential. Just for example, lets explore extreme nature vs nurture angle, doubled at once.

Let's be, a succubae mother with infant daughter is on the run from some hunters of the supernatural (perhaps some super secret government agency, or whatever). She hastily enters to hide in a rich house, and to appease her infant, place it in a cradle with another child. She haven't lost the hunters though, they attack, and/or maybe her attempt to approach the man of the house fail just long enough (because of his extreme devotion), and when the commotion starts, a nanny enters the child's room and... grabs the wrong one from the cradle. Succubus grabs the other on her run, she notices the exchange shortly, but is killed before she can correct the nanny's mistake.

The succubae child grows in extremely religious devout, above moderate rich, sheltered by overbearing mother and terrorised by zealous father, you know that terrible clische. She's sent to all girls Christian school, and even taken out of there to be home schooled when first signs of problems develop. She doesn't know what's "wrong" with her, but no matter how modest and reserved she try to be, men are spellbound in her presence. Slowly, she starts to explore the possibilities...

The "stolen" child was retrieved from the hands of dead succubae woman by some secret organization (could be yet another government agency, or even the same, or whatever cult, or something). Her new owners see her as a tool, and expect her to develop succubae powers, sooner or later, and may even have let her her know their expectations. Just like her sister-of-chance, she's sent to an elite school, but her curriculum is a bit different, it includes training in secrets of sex and lovemaking, besides spycraft. But it is not her inner nature, not her calling of life. Whenever not explicitly required she chooses to remain as modest as possible. However, as a talented, patient and devout student she may even achieve quite a success in those disciplines, she's able to complete her missions so far, and her handlers may not really know the difference. Maybe, they may try to "help" her unlock the power, effectively artificially enhancing her into some kind of "technological" succubus surrogate...

I might, eventually, or I might not... I don't have much of it right now besides what said and few vague scenes. If only I could write as fast and free as my mind can generate images while walking through the woods... and it's kind of necessary complex and I'm afraid to not do good to the idea. Not even considering the potential we all see is probably very different in each case.

Then there's the purely technical difficulties. Unfortunately, I still like to claim I don't speak English. It's nominally my fourth language, and although probably second best written language by now (I can't quite write Russian, although speak and read freely), the spoken English I still regard as a separate language entirely (and I tend to pronounce letters using the strictly phonetic Latvian alphabet), and I have managed to drop out of formal English classes four different times... And, my lexicon is admittedly weird, formed by programming, video games, and porn, in that order. I can't really describe food or even clothes, or non-clishe hair color for that matter, with any level of confidence anyway.

There's the worst problem, lack of confidence. And it's not like my real world experience would be very rich either.

At last, but not least, I have a dozen other obsessive ideas and fantasies that needs writing, however impossible it seems sometimes.

Sorry for whining, I realize those feelings are not anything unique among would-be aspiring amateur writers. The conflict of desire and fears of futility.
