Should any of you who've heard about the new Star Trek: Picard series who haven't yet viewed and episode be interested there's a free limited release available here.

It's a CBS All Access series of course so that's a completely separate topic. But I still enjoyed it and am still considering viewing further episodes via a paid subscription.

I love trek. But I roll my eyes everytime they travel faster than the speed of light. Why Dribble? General and special relativity. An object w mass, requires an increasing amount of energy to move that mass as one approaches the speed of light. So to travel at the speed of light (warp1) it takes an infinite amount of energy to move that mass. Sorry...no dilithium crystals in the real world.

I guess I am still 12 on the inside.
I LOVE it! So far they are doing a great job and I paid for the subscription.

also enjoying watching the old perry mason's which are part of the CBS content library!

I am loving it.... next generation was my favourite overall so happy to see Picard back on TV... I watch it on a sci-fi Canadian Channel.

With the exception of Enterprise, I've not viewed every episode of the many iterations of the Star Trek universe. But I have watched all of the movies after they were either available on TV or via a DVD. There's very little doubt that the level of fantasy in everything related to Star Trek's universes exceeds the actual science. But they're good escapism which is what science fiction, fantasy movies, and TV shows are all about anyway.

It'll be interesting to see how the Picard series plays out but as it is they've already approved a second season.

I’ve seen the first two episodes. I don’t know how much I’m going to like it yet but it is a hell of a lot easier to make sense out of than Discovery was.

I'm three episodes in, and I like it. The idea that DATA's consciousness could still be alive is, in a word, fascinating. The supporting characters are intriguing, especially Raffi. All this being said …

I don't like the turn that Star Trek is taking. When Tuvok was first introduced on Star Trek: Voyager, I wondered where the hell black Vulcans came from seeing as to how they were never there before. Now, with ST: Picard, we not only have an Asian Vulcan in Commodore Oh, but we have a Romulan, Narek, with a British accent. What, exactly, does this tell us?

It seems to me that in Hollywood's bid to make every show multiethnic, especially in a series like this, we are being told that regardless of what species may exist wherever it may be in the universe, each will have its share of black, white, Asian, Hispanic, and Middle Eastern peoples. This, in turn, would suggest that the existence of some god is responsible for it all.

Thoughts?

Did Troi struggle to ignore the lust that pretty much every guy around her would feel upon sight of her chest?

I remember some article or interview involving Marina Sirtis on her character Troi and the skin-tight costumes. She didn't like them or the fact that everyone pretty much had to do everything possible to keep from gaining any weight during the course of the TV series.

That's been the one constant in all of the Star Trek venues, they really like to showcase the female form. I guess Science Fiction with a heavy dose of sex appeal is a more winning venue. :D

They know their audience?

So all aliens have to be white and speak with American accents?

As a fan of sci-fi there's no part of Treck I've not seen!
So a show about "John Luck Picard" made perfect sense. That given he's the strongest captain of the 2nd generation of Treck and a fantastic actor too!

Usually i don't sound off on subjects like this, but this one is a sore spot for me because i seem to get irritated by TV programming schedule these days. When i saw the trailer for "picard" i was like "f*ck i'm hooked." But when i learned it wouldn't be on regular tv it made me cuss up a storm.

I mean has anyone else besides me notice most TV networks have shuffled every TV show that isn't a Crime Drama off regular TV at least in the US? I mean i don't remember what was the last non crime drama tv show that premired?

I'd really love to hear the corporate reasoning for this.

I have to say that I like how different this one is. Picard is obviously disillusioned and fed up with the dark turn of the federation and starfleet politics. The show is a little more serious and dark, with some truly brutal fight scenes. Forget the Karate chop to the back of the next and some judo throws, in this one, they snap bones and bust heads. But at the same time, we still see that Picards sense of justice and righteousness is intact, as is the overarching hope for the future.

I'm in like flynn.

I had such a crush on her...pretty much for that very same reason. The show hit right when I was in middle school/high school, so those hormones were raging.

Deanna Troi was probably my first girl crush. Definitely my first hair crush.
Not for me. She reminded me tooo much of one of my sisters.

Now Seven Of Nine was an entirely different matter & when she showed up on Picard, that caught my attention. Unfortunately, it looks like she won't be staying.

^^ The recycling of characters is one of the things that turned me against the series as a whole. Have they dug up that Yar trash again yet?
