Impeachment Thread

But then Trump can always be counted on to step in another dog pile needlessly soon thereafter.

When the Senate lets him off the hook for something he freely admitted he did (before someone managed to get it through his head that it was illegal), it will undoubtedly embolden him. Heaven only knows what he'll put his foot in next.

GOP senators privately demanding to know why White House set them up to take the fall over Bolton: report

As of Monday morning, Republican senators have made no direct comments yet about the bombshell New York Times report revealing former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s allegation that President Donald Trump directly told him he had tied military aid for Ukraine to a public announcement of an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden’s family.

However, according to Times reporter Maggie Haberman, some Republicans are privately angry with the White House for boxing them into a political corner, with some demanding to know what they knew and when about the manuscript Bolton was going to release:

As Haberman already reported, lawyers for Bolton transmitted the manuscript to the White House a month ago. So if the Trump administration had any suspicion that these facts were going to emerge, then it would mean they intentionally risked putting Senate Republicans in this situation. And they know it.

Now they worry about their reputations?

John Bolton Is Back To F*ck Sh*t Up!

John Bolton is going to burn down the Trump administration ... eventually. The question is whether he's going to do it on the witness stand when it actually matters, or just save it all for his stupid book. Because he's got the goods on everybody in that White House, including Bill Barr, Mike Pompeo, Mick Mulvaney, and Rudy Giuliani. And, as The New York Times reported last night, he's got Donald Trump by the short and curlies:

President Trump told his national security adviser in August that he wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens, according to an unpublished manuscript by the former adviser, John R. Bolton.

How you livin', Mitch McConnell? Looks like that warmongering bastard just raised the stakes on that vote to sweep this whole impeachment under the rug without witnesses. Because he's got firsthand knowledge of Donald Trump personally saying YES, QUID PRO QUO, no defense aid for Ukraine until they throw dirt on Joe Biden, and he's made it clear that he'll be telling his story sooner rather than later.

If he gets on the stand, that could be the whole ballgame. Plus, once that witness dam breaks, it's liable to trigger a flood. Because if Democrats get Bolton on the stand, they're going to ask him about Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who played along with Rudy Giuliani's demented ranting about Joe Biden and Ukraine, even sacrificing Marie Yovanovitch to a public smear campaign, despite knowing it was all bullshit.

Legal experts: Donald Trump cannot use ‘executive privilege’ to block John Bolton testimony

It remains to be seen whether or not Republicans in the U.S. Senate will vote to include testimony from witnesses in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, including former National Security Adviser John Bolton — who has said that he would testify if subpoenaed. Trump has asserted that he will invoke executive privilege if Bolton or any other national security officials are called to testify. But according to an article for Just Security written by six contributors (Harold Hongju Koh, Rosa Hayes, Annie Himes, Dana Khabbaz, Michael Loughlin and Mark Stevens), U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Roberts “should reject any such executive privilege claim” and “require Bolton’s testimony.”

How about Congressional privilege? :D

Ken Star now arguing that there has to have been a crime to hang impeachment on. And yet, Trump broke several laws, the GAO said so.

Trump's Chumps ignored the Ways and Means committee's right to review anyone's IRS returns by statute!

So Ken is deflecting and diverting but talking shit!:D

There's no way Bolton is going to give evidence at the impeached presidents trial. For a start trump hardly knows the man, never met him, might been in some photos but doesn't know him or what he's about. And besides, Bolton is a liberal snowflake anti trumper from way back.

Ken Starr defends Trump as Bolton revelations roil trial

According to The New York Times, Bolton, in a draft of his upcoming book, says that Trump told him in August that he wanted to freeze military aid to Ukraine until Kiev opened an investigation into his potential November election rival Joe Biden.

Republican Senator Mitt Romney of Utah said he believed there may be enough Republican backing to compel Bolton to testify.

“It’s increasingly apparent that it would be important to hear from John Bolton,” Romney told reporters. “I think it’s increasingly likely that other Republicans will join those of us who think we should hear from John Bolton.”

And maybe Mulvainy, Pompeo, Pence and Giuliani too also.:)

Conservatives resort to the ‘get over it’ defense after Bolton makes it impossible to conceal Trump’s guilt

Back in October, in midst of the exposure of a plot by Donald Trump to cheat in the 2020 election by extorting the Ukrainian president to interfere on his behalf, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney tried a novel strategy to defend his big orange boss: Telling the public to “get over it.”

So that’s what viewers watching the impeachment trial should keep in mind for the next few days. The arguments will likely be all over the place, unbound by the need for logic and evidence that Democrats employed when prosecuting the case against Trump. That doesn’t matter, because it’s all about creating clips Fox News can use to bolster this “get over it” defense. In the end, that’s what the average Trump voter will cling to in order to feel OK with backing the criminal in the White House.

When Trumpski is dragged kicking and screaming out of Mar a Largo to the New York courtroom for Tax Evasion and general fuckery, we can tell him to "Get Over It!":)

It’s over. Although there is still more to hear from White House lawyers this week, their short presentation on Saturday made clear that the House impeachment case is a loser.

The House managers’ argument is simple. They allege that President Trump withheld military assistance from Ukraine in order to force that country’s new president to investigate — among other things — why and how former Vice President Biden’s son became a director of a corrupt Ukrainian energy company. A subsidiary argument is that Trump also refused to provide, for the same reason, a White House meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky. In withholding the assistance and the meeting, the House managers argue, Trump used the power of the U.S. government for his own political purposes — a corrupt act that they claim warrants his impeachment.

The president’s lawyers, however, in their short two-hour summary, fatally undermined that case. They began with the famous July 25 transcript that recorded a conversation between the two leaders. In the transcript, neither Trump nor Zelensky made any reference to the military equipment for Ukraine that Trump was allegedly using to pressure his counterpart. (Zelensky did mention that Ukraine was “almost ready” to buy more Javelin anti-tank weapons, but they were not part of the withheld assistance.)

Even more important, there is nothing in the transcript that suggests Zelensky was aware — at least on July 25 -- that anything was being withheld from Ukraine. Obviously, Trump could not be pressuring Zelensky by holding back military assistance if the latter was not aware of it. This is a fatal flaw in the House managers’ argument.

MORE was revealed on Monday, but the outlines of a defeat for the House managers were obvious in the two-hour presentation on Saturday morning.

What’s left now for Senate Democrats is an attempt to get 51 votes for additional witnesses. But it’s a fool’s errand. Currently circulating in the media is a story about a book by John Bolton in which he allegedly says the president directed him to hold up delivery of the assistance until Biden was investigated. The president no doubt says many things to many people that he trusts. But all these statements of intention are irrelevant if he never told the Ukrainians that the assistance was being withheld. Without such knowledge, President Zelensky was not being pressured. Case closed!

Oh Dump, the Ukraine KNEW the aid was being fucking delayed in July, if not before!

They would have noticed the lack of funds soon after May when the checks didn't show up.

The only reason they ever got paid was the TRUMP GOT CAUGHT!

:D:D:D Silly Dump.

JackLuis writes: "Oh Dump, the Ukraine KNEW the aid was being fucking delayed in July, if not before!"

Not true, Jack! The Ukrainian president & Trump never once discuss military aid being held up in their phone call! That's something the House managers neglected to include in their summary, as it wouldn't have helped their case!

"They would have noticed the lack of funds soon after May when the checks didn't show up."

Again, you're missing the point. If the Ukrainian president had brought up aid being withheld in his phone call with President Trump, then perhaps it was real. But he never did, because he never knew!

"The only reason they ever got paid was the TRUMP GOT CAUGHT!"

And yet the House Democrats couldn't find enough evidence or witnesses to make that point in their articles of impeachment - and so they passed it anyway (on a purely partisan vote), and are now asking the U.S. Senate to discover evidence of Trump's guilt for them so they don't look stupid & incompetent!

Again, Jack - NOBODY, not even yourself, believes that the House witchhunt will end up with a win in the U.S. Senate for Adam Schiff & Nancy Pelosi! NOBODY thinks that! It's yet another expensive FAILURE by the Trump-haters on the far left!

And of course Ukraine is not going to complain. They know that if they publicly state tha trump held up the aid that he would take it out on them in vengeance. Of course they're going to try and keep trump sweet.

Yes, the corruption in the Ukraine that allowed Hunter Biden to get a cushy, high-paying job in their oil & gas industry in exchange for doing virtually NOTHING shows just how deep the corruption in the Ukraine actually was!

WHY were they paying Hunter Biden that much money, and WHAT did they expect his father, the vice president of the United States, to do for them in return? Joe Biden had already held up a billion-dollar aid-package (which he bragged about on camera), so what would hiring his son Hunter guarantee those in the Ukraine shelling out all of that money?

It's clear that President Trump wanted answers before allowing even MORE U.S. taxpayer money going into such a sinkhole of corruption! And while the House Democrats might view that as being an impeachable offense, others would disagree!

The only reason that Trump is not hanging from a tree now is that 57 traitors are holding his beer. Yes Dump, I said it, Traitors to the Republic, for which they do not stand!

He's probably still holding out hope that they'll find something on the Bidens. I honestly don't believe Trump is capable of recognising he's ever wrong about anything.

All he has to do anyway on the Bidens is go to a rally and state whatever he wants about them. Everyone who is ever going to believe him about anything will do so from the rally lies he tells.

It was a lamp post with Mussolini. I think Trump identifies with Mussolini more than most.

Silly Jack, totally uninformed on the subject. Friggin' pitiful. Today you had another yard of your asse ripped off by the defense team.:rolleyes:

Legal analyst mocks Alan Dershowitz for admitting he has a ‘minority view’: It’s ‘because he’s wrong’

Following former Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz’s defense of President Donald Trump in the impeachment trial on Monday, CNN chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin had harsh criticism.

“Alan Dershowitz, to his credit, said that his own view was very much a minority view of what the impeachment provision means,” said Toobin. “To his discredit, the reason why it’s a minority view is because he’s wrong.”

Not many agree with Dershowitz, for a good reason. He's full of shit!:D
