Impeachment Thread

Bedbug writes: "GOP senators should realize that the house is establishing an historical record of Trump's guilt."

The House Democrats have made NO PROGRESS in convincing ANY U.S. Senators to change their minds about impeachment. Those Democrats who already hate Trump (including those four currently running for the presidency) don't care about any evidence, and simply want Trump out of the way! Meanwhile, NONE of the Senate Republicans have indicated that they're buying into Schiff's clown-car impeachment show!

In the end, the U.S. Senate will vote, and President Trump will be vindicated. The resulting backlash will VERY LIKELY damage the Democratic Party this November, as they continue to wail & gnash their teeth over losing this second attempt at reversing Trump's 2016 election victory (the first attempt being the Mueller investigation!) The American people don't reward failure, especially not EXPENSIVE failures!

Does ANYBODY here on this Literotica forum seriously believe that the U.S. Senate will vote to remove Donald Trump from office? ANYBODY at all?

Kudos to the WH defense team for keeping their opening presentation short and concise today. Unlike the Dems, they did not insult the jury or put everyone to sleep. They are on track for victory by the end of next week.

What the 70 or so people who frequent the literotica politics thread believe or don't believe over trumps impeachment and possible removal from office is nothing, zero, zip, nada in the great scheme of things.
What's important is that 51% of USA voters think he should be. This is what the jury should be keeping track of.
Personally, I think he will survive this farce and will win a 2nd term and will provide the world with great entertainment for the next 5 years.

They were aware that no one was listening

Donald Trump is the O.J. Simpson of American politics

Now Donald Trump, O.J.’s political doppelganger, is going to get away with it. We have witnessed the Trump low-speed chase over the last four years. It began when he was running for president in 2016. Everyone knows that Trump called out for help from the Russians, and everyone knows they hacked the Democrats’ emails and did everything they could to help elect him. Everyone knows that Trump fired FBI Director James Comey because he wouldn’t pledge his loyalty and had begun an investigation of Russian influence in Trump’s campaign. Everyone knows Trump has done nothing but cozy up to Vladimir Putin since taking office, in an apparent “thank you” for the help Putin gave him. Everyone knows that Trump has lied repeatedly, not only about his corrupt campaign in 2016, but about practically everything else he’s done since his inauguration. He has told some 15,413 lies since taking office, through early December, according to the Washington Post.

After listening to the President’s lawyers opening arguments,
I have three observations: They don’t contest the facts of
Trump’s scheme. They’re trying to deflect, distract from,
and distort the truth. And they are continuing to cover it up
by blocking documents and witnesses.

If he does, it would be overcoming a poorer approval rating than any incumbent has ever been able to surmount.

You are certainly right about that - MY point being that the people frequenting this Literotica political forum are probably more left-of-center than is the average American, and yet I know of NOBODY posting here who seriously believes that the U.S. Senate is going to convict this president - NOBODY!

"What's important is that 51% of USA voters think he should be."

Yes, and back in 2016 over 51% of USA voters did NOT want Donald Trump elected president, and yet THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED! It would seem to me that polls don't always accurately reflect reality!

"This is what the jury should be keeping track of."

When you write the word "jury" - you do realize that you're including four senators currently running for president AGAINST Trump, right? And yet they all swore to be "unbiased?" How is that not perjury?

"Personally, I think he will survive this farce and will win a 2nd term and will provide the world with great entertainment for the next 5 years."

We seem to be in agreement here. I, too, believe that President Trump will EASILY survive this impeachment trial, and then easily be re-elected over Creepy-Sleepy Joe, with Nancy Pelosi probably losing her speakership after all of the votes are counted in November!

President Donald Trump's defense team repeatedly argued on Saturday that there isn't enough evidence to impeach him because Congress hasn't heard from any witnesses who had "direct contact" with the president.

Democratic lawmakers seized on those statements, saying they underscore the need to call more firsthand witnesses in Trump's trial.

Moreover, while Trump's lawyers complain of not hearing testimony from direct witnesses, the defense could easily solve that problem by retracting Trump's sweeping directive barring all executive branch officials across six agencies from cooperating with Congress' impeachment inquiry.

"The president's counsel did something that they did not intend: they made a really compelling case for why the Senate should call witnesses and documents," Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer said after opening arguments on Saturday.

Fox News poll delivers devastating news to Trump on impeachment

https://www.rawstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/foxpoll.jpg

According to a new Fox News poll released on Sunday morning, a clear majority of respondents — beyond the margin of error — believe Donald Trump should be convicted by the U.S. Senate for impeachable crimes and removed from office.

According to the poll, “On impeachment, by a 50-44 percent margin, voters think the Senate should vote to convict Trump and remove him from office. Most Democrats say remove (81 percent) and most Republicans disagree (84 percent). Among independents, more say Trump should be removed by a 19-point margin (53-34 percent).”

Kind of a "Nixon Moment?":)

Let's be honest here.

It shouldn't matter if you're a Democrat or a Republican or whatever. We should all be able to agree on the simple fact that if you're trying to obstruct an investigation by hiding 71 documents and you have a gag order on 12 witnesses, you're not innocent! You're guilty as hell!!!!

Well, what in tarnated were we thinking, we don't need that stinking constitution anyways, just gets in the way.

Yes, this. And if you ignore that fact, you shouldn't be permitted to continue as an elected official yourself.

No, the House Democrats NEVER heard from any witnesses who had "direct contact" with the president - and yet they voted to impeach him anyway, WITHOUT enough evidence! HOW IRRESPONSIBLE CAN YOU POSSIBLY GET?

Nancy Pelosi & Adam Schiff are claiming that they only impeached Trump in the House with the expectation that the U.S. Senate would then dig-up some evidence to make their charges stick, but that's NOT how it works! The modern Democratic Party seemingly believes that all they need do is to accuse this president of wrongdoing, and that Trump must then prove his innocence! That's just ASS-BACKWARDS!

Perfectly shaped buttocks writes: "It shouldn't matter if you're a Democrat or a Republican or whatever."

No, it shouldn't - and yet FOUR of the president's U.S. Senate "jurors," who solemnly SWORE to be un-biased in this impeachment trial, are currently running against him for the presidency! Did they commit PERJURY? It doesn't matter, as the House Democrats haven't come anywhere CLOSE to making their case, and when the full-senate votes on this thing sometime next week, President Trump will easily be acquitted/vindicated!

And AFTER he's acquitted, the Dems & their progressive Antifa-allies will loudly scream out their anger & frustration exactly like they did back on election night, 2016! Trump wins everytime he goes up against these losers!

Since in my experience most independents are really Republicans (they just think not belonging to the party proves...something about them), it should be that all right.

Then again, if Watergate had happened in the era of Fox News and talk radio, I tend to believe Nixon would have gotten off scot free and the mainstream media would have been left castigating themselves for their horribly unfair coverage.

Even liberal Democrats no longer quote CNN polls - even LIBS now recognize that FOX has the most credibility of ALL of the major news outlets!

Be that as it may, NOWHERE in the U.S. Constitution does it mention polling results and their relationship to the U.S. Senate impeachment trial! And didn't FOX's presidential polls also predict a Hillary Clinton victory in 2016? Why, yes... yes, they did!

Not even YOU, YDB95, seriously believe that the U.S. Senate will even come CLOSE to removing Trump from office, and so you "comfort" yourself by reading the polls! And you realize that FOX probably has better far polls that anybody else, so you tell yourself that maybe some Republican senators will be swayed.

Trump will be vindicated when the full U.S. Senate votes on this thing next week. Not even Mitt Romney will vote to oust Trump from office! As in the House impeachment vote, it will be 100% PARTISAN with only Democrats voting to convict!

Gone is the Elephant as symbol of the Trumpublicunts! Now it's three monkeys rejecting reality!

I think you’re right. The acquittal happens next week. The Super Bowl happens on Sunday. And come November, Democrats will yet again be schooled on this electoral college thing.

Possibly. But if I were a Republican, I hope I wouldn't be quite so proud of the fact that my party's only route to victory was an eighteenth century technicality created in the first place to second-guess the voters (and, indirectly at least, to protect slavery).

A super bowl of what? Is that like super sizing your fries at McDonald's?

I think what he's getting at is that the voters will have forgotten all about the impeachment after the next big news story, which is likely to be the Super Bowl. Certainly that's what Trump's supporters are hoping will happen.

But then Trump can always be counted on to step in another dog pile needlessly soon thereafter.

Super bowl. I googled it. Apparently a game of American football.
American football: if you locked 10 of the most brilliant minds in the world in a room and refused to let them out until they had invented the perfect game for morons, they'd come up with American football.
