Is the "Loving Wives" category really that bad?

I'll just point out that so far no one has any evidence that the phenomenon of bombing stories and downvoting stories on the rest of one's story catalog occurs EXCEPT with respect to cuckold/wife sharing stories that are hated by the BTB crowd. I see no reason to believe this occurs except with these types of stories. The BTB folks may not like Burn the Bastard stories, but that doesn't mean they're going to troll them and go after the authors.

Whatever else you can say about Loving Wives, it has a huge audience, so it's a good place to post a story UNLESS you have a really solid reason not to do so.

What if part of the MC's revenge involves fucking other people? Does that create a situation close enough to "wife cheats and gets away with it" to bring on the storm? Or "is all fair in love and war" as they say? Again, I don't really care about the BTB entry itself bombing or getting nasty comments, I'm mostly concerned about dedicated trolls bleeding into my story catalog.

There are some categories which generally bring out the best in people, ones like a Romance. Then there is LW, which seemingly exists to encourage pale things to crawl out from underneath fallen logs. No matter what you write there, you are far more likely to bring down fire on yourself than if you write elsewhere.

Who can fathom the mind of a troll? Will they follow you around? Maybe, some of them. There’s no guarantee, regardless of your plot.

If your score matters most to you, it can hurt. The good news is that authors can easily delete cretinous comments. The really good news is that LW stories get a lot of views.

You pay your money, you take your chances.

I think unless there is evidence of a particular sort of behavior in a particular sort of circumstance, nobody knows, and we're just guessing and giving you unhelpful advice. If I had to guess, I would guess that any story in which the wife retaliates by engaging in cheating behavior herself and living happily ever after would run some risk of this behavior, but I don't really know. In the BTB stories, the husband who is cheated on is typically wholly virtuous, so if you have a cheated on wife who is less than virtuous it may provoke a hostile response, but I don't know.

One of the things about this site is the idea that people don't disparage other people's kinks.

So shall we all start running each other down?

We’re not supposed to disparage other people’s kinks, no. But it’s clear by reading comments in LW stories that a vocal faction of the readers do. How often do we see some Anonymous comment with something along the lines of “cuck shit. 1 Star” ? There is no mechanism in effect to stop kink-shaming.

I see some weird qualifiers and counter-qualifiers in there so I'm not sure of this supports or refutes anything or not. I've done a few tales there and elsewhere. A few doinks followed to other stories and make their presence and reasons known.

My interest in what others think is virtually zilch, so I turned comments and voting off for a few weeks wiping everything out. Then I turned voting back on, but not comments. I don't really pay much attention to the votes either, but when I look a couple of times a year, they're 'reasonable' in my view.

Gordo, please show me where I have ever started running other people's kinks down. My remark was aimed at the cretinous comments and sloped-forehead behaviour shown by readers - some readers - in the LW area.

Alright, thank you!

Obviously, I know these are all just guesses on everyone's part, but I think guesses and anecdotes can be helpful. I think I'll likely post under my current pen name, if for no other reason than that I don't plan on writing very many LW stories and it seems silly to create an alt just for one mini-series.

It sounds like BTBastard stories don't attract all that many trolls and I can just use comment moderation controls and score sweeps to kick the few that do show up off of my other stories. Besides, with all my other projects going on, it'll be a while before I am ready to post in LW anyway and I expect I'll have a bit more "protective padding" votes-wise by then. Guess we'll find out. :D

My guess (I emphasize the word "guess") is that if you make clear up front, by tags, disclaimer, introduction, title, tagline, whatever, that your story is about a CHEATING HUSBAND, then much of the BTB crowd won't bother reading. They're looking for stories about cheating wives, either to praise the stories where the wives get it in the end or to condemn those in which they do not.

But we're all just guessing here.

Evocative and well put.

I find that I care about my score. Admittedly, it's partly an ego boost. But it's also because I do want people to read my story, and for older stories lower scores are a barrier to attracting new readers.

One thing I noticed from my venture into LW was that within days of my first chapter posting all my other stories took a small hit on scores - for some, with a lower previous vote count, a large one. The correlation was obvious, even without the gloating PMs and comments from the BTB contingent.

I may poke them with a stick again someday. But I won't have any illusions about what to expect in response.
