There seem to be far more women (especially in the 'Celeb' genre) who have these modifications than there were when I was younger.

I'll come straight out and say that some may consider my opinion quite extreme - I think that they are both a form of psychotic self-harm and would recommend referral to care professionals.

So here's a poll, tell me what you think:

Obviously it's a personal choice for everyone, but I definitely have strong feelings. I like ear piercings, multiple is fine and clips along the upper part I find sexy. A small nose stud is ok, but really dislike big or multiple nose peircings, eyebrow or anywhere else on the face, and have no use for tongue, nipple, or vaginal hardware.

As far as tattoos go, I like a little, but so many people go overboard with them. As a legman, I strongly dislike leg sleeves, but smaller tats of good art can add a bit for me. Ankle, calf, or even thigh, but subtle is sexy for me. Shoulders, back or torso can be nice also, but again, within reason. Just my opinion.

Thanks,

as you say they're all opinions and personal choices. Maybe just one factor in that long list of tick-boxes that we all pretend we're not subconsciously completing....

Ears/nose/belly button piercings are fine with me, the others (nipples, tongue, clit) never really did it for me. I don't hate them, only in extreme cases would they really turn me off from someone I was otherwise attracted to . And I've got nothing against tattoos, but do I feel like most tattoos are, in both conception and execution, not very inspiring. Done right they can be pretty cool!

If God did not want...

If God did not want us to poke decorative holes in our bodies and use our skin as a canvas to poke pigments into then he would have given us brains.

The current ink kink is another example of group think. Everyone suddenly needs a tattoo to prove what a unique individual they are. Can you imagine how shitty their skin will look when they get older?

Sometimes I think that human's can be so influenced by others that if some started walking around with their pants hanging so low that their underpants show that a whole group would follow the leader. Or if one person flips their cap backwards all caps must flip backwards. If some start buying new jeans with fake wear and tear then all must do it. It is the key to being a unique individual.

I presume you don't eat bacon either as the bible forbids that, too.
I'm so glad you don't try forcing your religion and your religiously justified views on others such as Islamists and Taliban and such try to do within the Muslim world and other terrorists such as white supremacists and nazi try to do in other parts of the planet.

Not really a fan of either.
Ear piercing is standard enough and a discretely placed tattoo can be cute, however sleeves or a face full of pins is a turn off for me

Each to their own and I am not bothered what people wish to do to themselves. I dislike both and I dont even have pierced ears, but many of my friends have tattoos and piercings and I still love them lots! Ironic though isnt it that today you are more unique if you dont have any of these things than if you do!

Interesting comment on the non conformity paradox, of people conforming by getting stuff pierced or inked.

Some tats are ok, if they're small, not into the whole body or large portions of the body being painted.

Piercing of the ears and belly button are ok, but NOT nose rings, lips, eyes, cheeks, etc.

Nose rings are put on animals so that they can be controlled by the owners when needed.

I don't really care for either of them, but can find them moderately attractive if minimal. But serious piercings or tats? I find them very off-putting.

I prefer as natural look as possible, even prefer no cosmetics when applicable (well, as any red blooded male the elaborate "no-cosmetics" face artworks are attractive, that's just play with instincts, I suppose).

Tattoos on women are a very strong turn off, all and any, with very rare exceptions. Tattoos on men are generally indifferent, then, men are generally indifferent to me anyway.

My objection to tattoos is that in my perception, tattooed person can't be totally naked, and since nudity is critically important for me, it's a strong turn off. I want to remove them. With a knife...

While I'm not a big fan of body painting either, non-permanent modifications generally don't bother me. If body paint is used as excuse for lack of or very revealing clothing, it's hot, but paint is still clothing nevertheless. Tattoos that resemble permanent clothing, especially breast tattoos (maybe unless those are reconstructed) is a sure fire way to erase any erotic attraction.

Likewise, implant augmented breasts are only okay if they done so well I would never tell, but absolutely most of them totally ruin the look for me (but then I also think anything larger than full C is generally too large anyway). Flat chest, small, saggy, it's all immeasurably more attractive than anything artificial.

Piercings, something little and classy, are no problem, and they're not strictly permanent anyway. Extreme, huge or weird can be distracting and even disgusting, and I don't really understand nipple piercings, in my opinion they look awful (but supposedly increase feelings?)

Only way a tattoo could be tolerated is, if it bears very strong and extremely serious importance for the wearer, representing indeed irreversible change and integral part of the personality, and not a decoration. But I would be rather hard to convince about that (psychic trauma therapy is one valid possibility), but anything larger or in wrong place would still be extremely distracting, and sometime in the middle of the night I still may start to play around it with a sharp blade...

If I were a billionaire, I would finance a free tattoo removal clinic for women, perhaps forcing clients to sign a formal pledge to never get a tattoo again (even knowing well it's effectively unenforceable).

If I were in command of crazy dystopic dictatorship I would have people hunted on streets and their tattoos removed forcefully... but that's just over-playing a creep.

Thanks to everyone who's taken the time and effort to vote and/or respond in the thread. The images in print and broadcast media (especially the UK's Channel4 and E4) would suggest that 90% of the world is now tattooed and pierced, and that being turned off by that current fashion is somehow deviant. It's reassuring to see that others (hi LupusDei) share my preference. If anyone else wants to vote or reply....

Tatts, generally yes.
Piercings, many are nice.
Not too keen about the rings in the lip though. Reminds me of a fish that has been caught. Ears, nipple, navel, clit....cool.

I wanted to get my nipples pierced (I'm a guy), but thought I would only do it if I had a 6-pack going on. I mentioned it to my wife, but she did not like the idea at all. So, I just put it on my fantasy list.

I always thought they could be very sexy for both of them. I did some piercings when younger but never went ahead with any tattoos for fear of needles and fear of hating them later on.

On the flip of that I think people that get face tats are pretty goofy looking in my opinion but I am not the one having to wear them so.

Both are a turn off for me and my wife, on both men and women. We like everything natural including body hair.

I don’t like any of them.

I like make up, don’t mind implants and hairy pussies but tattoos and most piercings are a big turn off for me.

I like pierced ears on a woman because I think it looks really feminine. One or two in each ear but no more. Belly piercings, especially dangling ones, drive me crazy. It's a little hint of trashiness that's really hot. All other piercings are a real turnoff for me.
Tattoos on women is also a turnoff for me. I love the glow of a woman's skin and her soft curves. Tattoos make it harder for me to enjoy a woman's natural feminine beauty.
