Whoopee; a relatively quiet night. No flashes & bangs.
Time for a real good coffee, I'm thinkin'.
I gotta see my Dentist a bit later. . . .

Morning HP.

I'm up way too late. I hate it when I can't find a place to stop the writing. I went so far as to shut everything down and I went to lay down. Thirty minutes of tossing and turning and I was back at it. I think I've finally run out of words on that story.

I'll make coffee and wander off to bed. Maybe i can stay there.

It's too hot for us Brits. The temperature today is likely to be the hottest this year and expected to break the UK's hottest ever recorded temperature.

At 11 am, with the curtains shut and the windows open for the sea breeze it is 30C indoors. Very few UK homes have air con because we'd only use it on two or three days a year...

Relatable.

Ice your coffee today, then buy a 4-inch personal fan and put it on its highest setting. Balance it on your chest as you lounge on your couch.

Good luck.

I have a friend who lives on the top floor of a 4 story apartment complex with a flat roof. Apparently it got close to 40C indoors a few weeks ago with the last spike in temperature. Can only imagine what it'll be like for him today. Hope he survives, we need our dungeon master.

A small DIY project for you.

There's a hole under the fan and the container is full of ice. Some substitute computer fans for the desk fan.

The use of a decent 'computer fan' is worth it.
We've managed to get up to +34.6C so far today.
/But with the fans running full bore, it's time for a long coffee. . . .

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. Often a small computer fan is substituted for the desk fan as shown in the photo.

Local Temperatures in the sun were very hot. Those going to the beach opposite my house were wearing the absolute minimum (or less!).

But in the early evening there was a sudden thinderstorm and torrential rain. Instant wet bikini and t-shirt contest!

Sounds like free entertainment.

I just went for a brisk walk around the park and thought it was a little warm. I checked conditions when I got back to the office. The temperature was 90F (32C), but the humidity was in the mid 20's. Thunderheads are starting to pop around the area.

We had some storms last night. It was exciting to see the flashes; the noise came in a strange way, though.

And at the moment, it's evening and we've got +32C but quite humid.
Time, I think, for a very long mug of decent Tea.

I'm suddenly tempted to move closer to the sea. Although if our low land floods at some point I should be safe where I live now. Hmm... Free entertainment during the summer, or being safe once all the ice melts because of global warming... Difficult, I think I could use a cup of coffee while I consider this dilemma.

I'm sufficiency far above the sea not to worry. If I flood, most of London would be under water as would be much of coastal Europe. I am higher than the top of the Thames Barrier.

When we get torrential rain, it flows past my house down the slope towards the centre of town and through storm drains directly into the sea. After a dry spell, the outflow from the storm drains send a mucky brown stain across the surface of the sea, unless it is a very low tide in which case we can see an instant delta form, until the tide rises and washes it away.

Doomed? I don't think so. Not unless we run out of coffee.

Fresh coffee for the evening crowd.

I have unpacking and packing to do. Sounds redundant, doesn't it.

88 degrees with 37% humidity. Not bad at all.

Ahhh, but what’s the dew point? That determines how uncomfortable you feel.

Here's a question for those of you familiar with European etiquette.

My daughter and her husband were in Budapest last week, and while dining out, my son-in-law got the wait staff very upset. Apparently, he left his utensils on his plate in an arrangement that indicted he was unhappy with the dish.

I've never heard of such a thing. Is that real? Is it a Budapest thing? Is there a guide to how you should arrange your utensils when your done with a dish?

Asked hubby this one, he's a cosmopolite, and he said as far as he knows, in Hungary, when finished, dining etiquette dictates that the knife and fork should be laid together in the center of the plate, to indicate both completion, and satisfaction with the meal; one assumes the using the Western convention of slanting the knife and fork to the right (because service is from the right, and dishes are passed down the table from the left and removed from the right) is not understood as merely a signal to waiting staff that one is finished, possible placing the silverware anywhere but dead-center of the plate indicates dissatisfaction.

But whaddoIknow?

I always assumed that as long as you didn't stick the knife or fork in the wait staff, all was good. :D

Fresh coffee for the later evening crowd.

Voboy, the dew point is 60.

60 ain't awful for y'all down there.

We were at 72 last weekend. It was brutal. We're 63 now and it's far more comfortable.

Iced Irish coffee here.

We have a beautiful shower going on, and a little lightening overhead. The temperature dropped from 94 to 68, and the dew point is at 64. It's humid. I love it.

Living in the desert for a long time totally changes the way you think about rain.

November publication? How much time elapses from your draft to publication?

Well, my draft went through revisions and excellent beta readers who are qualified to be editors before being submitted. They accepted my book last week and I'll get revisions from a staff editor in a few weeks then have a few weeks to implement suggested changes.

Oh, no! Then they would be triffids.
Wow! There's a new fictional species for me.

Ah, that should double the plot bunny quota.

My last seaside stay was at a nude beach in the warm tropics. Herds of plot bunnies roamed at will. A cargo ship would not have been big enough to bring them home. I had to be so selective.

Tx, you make me laugh.

I hope HM feels better!

Really, all we can do is give these idiots a tube of Lanacaine, show them pictures of what an advanced basal cell carcinoma looks like and a lecture, but I guarantee they'll be back at least one more time, because most of what we tell them percolates through a haze of alcohol, so they end up getting the Chinese Whispers version...

Another new thing I learned! I hadn't known that "Chinese Whispers" is a name for what I know as "Telephone".

Drinking coffee with hazel nut flavor in it, listening to the early morning birds trying to convince the sun to rise.

I love this description. How lucky we are for such persistent birds.
