Why are the Dem's 'bent' about a parade?

"Presidents just don't do that." seems to be the mantra of the day. Well, that's just not true. Parades and speeches have been the norm for ages. Even Obama used the 4th to make political hay. The examples re. past presidents are legion and easily available for research.

Could it be that they are an expression of national pride? Something that the Democrat party seems to be adverse to these days. It seems to me that they're so adverse that it's a wonder they don't seek asylum in one of those other nations that they look up to. Maybe Cuba, or how about Venezuela? Perhaps China is their model society now. Who know's?

What we do know is that their contempt for the US borders on hatred. It's almost palpable in it's expression.

What we also know is that Trump know's how to twist their tails at every turn. He's an 'in your face' guy and they hate him for it.

We ARE a military nation, have been since Brenton Woods, hell, since Lexintgton. Our commitment was that we'd secure the oceans for free transit (trade) and back your security against encroachment. WE are the reason that 15% of the world live in relative freedom. WE are the reason that the various European nations could spend their treasuries on their peoples instead of rebuilding their military might (which they invariably used against each other).

I don't know about you but to me that's an achievement to be proud of there. Even those shit hole nations are enjoying a standard of living unheard of a few decades ago. Yes the hate Trump, yes they would deny him any and all opportunities to use the trappings of the presidency to get tilm in the can for the never-ending campaign. (which is what he is doing, and arguably quite justifiably so)

It should be acknowledged that they have other, sincere objections to such military pageantry. They, as a group, have very little respect or admiration for the military on a spectrum from finding it garish, to being embarrassed and apologetic that we can and do weild military might, to openly loathing the military, all the way to loathing individuals who wear, or have worn the uniform. They sincerely harbor these anti-military sentiments.

A hypothetical "I-loath-the-military" HRC as POTUS would not want such a parade. She wanted the military repurposed ala Mogadishu, and would without remorse endangernor abandon individuals as she did then and during Benghazi.

That is only one aspect.

Democrats do not self report a pride in country that Republicans do. I should link surveys here. Even when Obama was in office, that much vaunted "historic" moment of "achievement" was not a source of such pride for Democrats that their numbers on pride in country exceeded Republicans pride in country.

Consider that- Republicans who liked none of Obama's stated goals or enacted policies to "transform" America still had more pride in country than Democrats even while Obama held office.

The fit of pique by Dems at being out of power lowers their already low, self-reported sense of pride in America, writ large.

If I'm being as charitable as possible I'm sure someone on their side could elegantly argue that patriotism does not require pride in any and everything that one's country does or has done.

The problem is, even when they get their way and have the power to shape America to their liking they do not love America as an abstract the way Republicans do. They do not report the same swell of patriotism. Some, sincerely, would feel revulsion at America's great warriors poised to do what they are asked to do on behalf of us all.

If this was 1776, the would not vote for Amerexit.

This holiday us not theirs, despite the fact that we openly offer our camaraderie each fourth.

They are not all feeling it.

I'm sure I'll get individuals responding about how they themselves do love America and may well chime in with heart warming stories of their own service or service of friends and family members and what that means to them and how they very well may not wish to have that imprimatur accrue to the current commander-in-chief.

I get that and I thank any and all of them for their individual service and the service of their family members and don't dispute any one's self declared love of country. I'm speaking in broad strokes of how Democrats respond to polls about how they feel about America.
