It's hot here, so I'm just too discombobulated to put this in a pithy way, but:

As we all move forward in life, seeking that elusive better self that seems like those little specs on your eyeballs that you can never truly focus on because they move when you try to look at them, so is our perfect self. It will never be there. It is, by definition, a work in progress, like Parkinson's Law - a task that expands to fill the time allotted for its completion.

There is no "I'm done now - I've gotten there." How could there be? Ever?
It's a good thing, because as important as the improvement in ourselves is, so is the need and aspiration to seek our own further improvement.

To paraphrase a well known political statement:
"It's the journey, stupid"
