Could somebody please tell me if having an 18 year-old girl drink some wine is against the rules? I’m not talking getting inebriated and taken advantage of, just some wine with a sophisticated companion in a sensual environment. I don’t see anything in the FAQ, just want to be sure I didn’t miss it somewhere. Thanks! :)

I don't think it will be a problem. I had eighteen year olds drinking beer in my latest accepted submission.

Nope.

Young folks can be depicted drinking, puffing, snorting, etc. Follow the consequences.

I plan to do this with a couple of my characters in upcoming chapters, so I'm another hoping this doesn't violate some previously unsuspected rule. The first, which should be out by next weekend:

"Is this the pulque you mentioned?" she asked, glancing to my glass.

"They serve it with other flavors, mostly fruit. This one is passion fruit. Mariano's is unflavored."

"May I?" Morgan asked me. "I love passion fruit." I knew she was still a few months shy of 21, but a sip wouldn't hurt. I slid my glass toward her. She lifted it, her pinky held away, delicately sipped.

In europe she would already been legaly allowed to drink wine for two years already

I suspect you're coming at this from a US legal perspective where it's illegal to drink until twenty-one in some states. In terms of Literotica's content policies, the legal drinking age is irrelevant. Just no sexual activity until she's turned eighteen, is all you need to watch.

If the girl lives in one of those states and the drink is an added thrill, the way you've written it works. But here in Oz it would be, so what? Eighteen is the legal drinking age here.

We now have a national drinking age of 21. There used to be a lot of smuggling between states with different age limits, and now that should be over. Some states modify that age limit to account for drinking with family and/or drinking in some locations (church for the eucharist? I don't know).

In my story in progress, I have a nineteen-year old character who is a non-drinker. I thought that was more challenging than having her drink.

Didn't know that - ta. That explains why so many US stories make a mention, lately.

There's occasional talk of raising the drinking age here to lower the road-toll. Can't see it happening though, there'd be one hell of a backlash from the liquor industry.

You can't write only legal behavior in fiction. There wouldn't be much fiction written if you had to stick to that.

A few of my underage characters drink, deal drugs, or *gasp* forge essays for people. None of those have been a problem.

I wonder how effective that would be. Alcohol isn't the only cause of bad driving, there's no age limit on illicit drugs, and there's no reason that an 18-20 year-old would have to buy the alcohol themselves. Once I was out of high school most of my friends were over twenty one, so alcohol was always available anyway.

Sorry, the US drinking age is NOT 21 in all states. Uncle Sam withheld highway funding for States that did not raise the legal age to PURCHASE to 21.

Possession and consumption are State by State, several have 18 as age to possess or consume.

A lawyer told me that Uncle Sam can't force those states to change because a 19 y/o in say Wisconsin an 18 State is AN ADULT having her civil rights infringed upon in this instance.

Why a 19 y/o in Florida has fewer rights I don't know...

PS: the jurisdiction my kids grew up in had a legal drinking age of !6. But you couldn't get a drivers licence till you were 18.

Which ones?

I know (and I said) there are exceptions for drinking with family and in some locations.

ObTopic overview: Legality is not an issue in LITworld. Laurel's rules rule: No bestiality (except with fantasy critters); no snuff (and skip mayhem too); and no underage sexual activity (whomever Laurel perceives as appearing under 18). Otherwise our fictional characters can commit many acts that are major or minor crimes somewhere. I spent a day in jail for jaywalking. S'truth.

Not very. An asshat who is going to drink and drive, or drug and drive, is going to do so regardless of the law. The same with the dick-head on their mobile phone whilst driving (that's illegal too, unless it's hands-free). It's reverse Darwinism, frankly.

Jeesh, NotWise. If you're going to say:

We now have a national drinking age of 21.

... then don't waffle, when appropriately corrected, just own it. In the reality it took me less than a minute to verify:

Despite its name, [The National Minimum Drinking Age] Act did not outlaw the consumption of alcoholic beverages by those under 21 years of age, just its purchase. However, Alabama, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Vermont, and the District of Columbia extended the law into an outright ban. The minimum purchase and drinking ages is a state law, and most states still permit "underage" consumption of alcohol in some circumstances.

Jeesh, NotWise. If you're going to say:

Then I will accept the correction. We have a national age limit of 21 for the purchase of alcohol. The laws governing consumption of alcohol vary from state to state based on (according the the Wikipedia article on underage drinking) presence of family and location of drinking (home, for instance).

This thread, which was about submitting a story to Literotica, has drifted off into legalities that nothing to do with submitting a story to Literotica. Fine if you all want to spin that wheel, but keep in mind that it doesn't have anything to do with getting a story posted to Literotica.

I know Wikipedia is not always a reliable source, especially when subjects get esoteric, but in this case, with a more accessible subject, I felt like I could cite it usefully.

I legally voted when I was 18, drank earlier (with immediate family), and drove earlier still. I was 13 with the motorcycle, I think, maybe even 12, and 14 with the tractors, legally, and maybe not quite so strictly legal with the cars but it was still helpful that I could transport them, and no one (and no thing) got hurt.

I don't feel a need to spin that wheel.

KeithD, what the thread was actually about:

Could somebody please tell me if having an 18 year-old girl drink some wine is against the rules?

I believe that question has been satisfactorily answered, no further admonishment necessary.

Well, now, this being the AH, if it's not pinned down that the discussion has gotten away from the question of what can be submitted here, there will be writers who think we're still talking about what Laurel will accept here and, yes, that wheel will just keep on spinning--and will create other spinning wheels too.
