“You say you love your children above all else, and
yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes,”
she says via a video message, portions of which were greeted
by cheers from the audience. “Until you start focusing on what
needs to be done rather than what is politically possible, there
is no hope. If the solutions in this system are so impossible to find,
then maybe we should change the system itself.”

What's behind Donald Trump's bewildering avalanche of lies?

Nothing good.

505 lies about immigration

402 lies about Trump's economic accomplishments

143 lies about exaggerated military spending

127 lies about Trump himself being persecuted

(including 66 lies alleging that the Democrats
were the ones who colluded with Russia)

101 lies relating to alleged Democratic collusion

35 lies claiming that Obama gave $150 billion to Iran

Trump is an unaccountable leader, an authoritarian.
His refusal to play by the rules is one of the reasons
that I wrote that he's an anarchist. As is clear today,
Trump would destroy the system before he would
allow it to hold him accountable.

The Greatest Story Ever Told About Hyperbole, Humbug, and P.T. Barnum! | Essay

| Zócalo Public Square

In 1835, Phineas Taylor Barnum was down on his luck and anxious
to find an “amusement” that would attract paying customers.

https://www.zocalopublicsquare.org/...told-hyperbole-humbug-p-t-barnum/ideas/essay/

“Trump's constant blizzard of lies denies us the possibility of knowing.
It's its own epistemology. And if that doesn't frighten you, the constant
barrage of lies are authoritarian — they are used to prevent him from
being held accountable for his words and actions.”

But the lies don’t just work in isolation, she noted:

"The lies serve in conjunction with his other rhetorical strategies
to attract attention, control the national dialogue, and distract
our attention. I write about how he routinely uses ad hominem attacks,
ad baculum threats of force, reification (treating people as objects),
ad populum (appealing to the wisdom of the crowd), American exceptionalism,
and paralipsis (I'm not saying, I'm just saying).
The lies are part of all of those strategies.

He lies when he attacks,
he lies when he praises,
he lies and lies and lies.

There is no truth that matters."

We have 3 co-equal branches of government, if Trump was an authoritarian he would just fix the border. But you know what? he can't without the other branches of government.

Benjamin Hart-

This is a question that comes up whenever we deal with someone who consistently doesn’t tell the truth:

Do you think Trump believes most of his lies in the moment he tells them,
or do you think he’s consciously aware that he’s not telling the truth?

Daniel Dale-

There are a lot of cases where I feel like I can tell that he knows he’s making it up. And there’s some where he clearly knows. One example that comes to mind: At campaign rallies, for a while he’d be bashing the media and he would look to the cameras in the back of the room and point and be like, “Look at that, CNN just turned its camera off. You see, the red light just went on …”

Of course, that didn’t happen. That has never happened, to my knowledge. CNN has never angrily turned off its camera when he was criticizing CNN or the media. And so he’s literally looking his supporters in the eye and pointing at something in the room that is not happening and telling them that it’s happening. And so for people who say, “Oh, he believes all these, he’s just delusional,” I think there are cases like that where he’s clearly deliberately making it up.

WASHINGTON — The acting defense secretary, Patrick Shanahan, notified Congress on Friday that he intended to shift $1.5 billion that had been designated for the war in Afghanistan and other projects to help pay for work on President Trump’s border wall.

...

Nowhere in the national security strategy, which Pentagon leaders approved, does it say that migrant caravans of people fleeing drug violence in Central American countries are a threat to national security.

Behind Donald Trump's bewildering avalanche of lies:

Maybe the death of democracy

Paul Rosenberg quotes Elizabeth Mika

Lies are omnipresent in the world she describes, but the tyrant's lies —
expressing the world-as-he-wants-it and imposing it on everyone
around him — can only succeed as part of a broader dynamic of
mendacity.

May 13, 2019

"Tyrannies are three-legged beasts," Mika explained:
There's the tyrant, his supporters and the society as a whole,
and they are bound together in different ways, always with
some profound need for deception. The nature of lies that a
tyrant or would-be tyrant tells are reflections of all three,
not just the tyrant alone. But the idea that Trump would
become “normal” was never in the cards, as she reiterated
when I reached out to her.

“The dismantling of American democracy under the leadership
(if one can call it that) of Donald Trump is proceeding as predicted,
so much so that there is not much to add beyond the somewhat bitter
‘We told you so,’” Mika said.

“It is just that the punditocracy is perhaps finally catching up.”

Of course the clear answer is to give up all property and rights to ones labor, property, time and self to the state.

Except for abortion and infanticide, that's the only right an individual gets and it's absolute.

All other freedom must go for the greater good.

Being a liberty loving American doesn't make one a Koch Sucker. ;)

What bullshit? That socialism is fucking evil??

Are you saying the extermination of my family along with a half BILLION other people in the name of equity is bullshit?

Wow...you really are a good comrade.

BotanyBoy writes: "Of course the clear answer is to give up all property and rights to ones labor, property, time and self to the state."

It's certainly worked in CUBA, BotanyBoy - I mean, how many times have we seen liberal Hollywood celebrities return from that island praising Fidel Castro for ending all poverty (EVERY citizen is guaranteed a job earning thirty-cents a day), along with the best health care in the world (according to Michael Moore's documentaries, anyway), and they don't EVER have to worry about voter photo-ID laws because they don't ever bother holding FREE ELECTIONS! I can fully understand now why President Obama wanted to visit that island and watch a baseball game with his buddy, Raul Castro!

"Except for abortion and infanticide, that's the only right an individual gets and it's absolute."

You CANNOT be a Democrat today if you're not pro-abortion. I remember Senator Al Gore (D-TN) voting consistently pro-life until Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton asked Al to be his running-mate in 1992. Bill had just ONE demand to make, and that was for Gore to become pro-choice, with Al complying almost immediately! The Democrats weren't pro-infantacide just yet - that would come later!

"All other freedom must go for the greater good."

Today's Democratic Party is NOT pleased with all of those protections afforded by our U.S. Constitution. For one thing, where is the inclusion for Islamic Sharia Law in those communities populated largely by Muslims? WHERE are the bathroom rights for transgendered Americans? WHERE are the voting rights for those people sneaking into this country illegally? WHERE are the rights allowing a woman & her doctor to terminate the life of a newborn baby that she doesn't want to keep?

Modern Democrats have serious problems with the First Amendment (e.g. allowing "hate-speech" by conservative speakers), the Second Amendment (more "Gun-Free Zone" signs desperately needed), and the Electoral College (which prevents people in New York City & Los Angeles from being able to elect our presidents!) If the Revolutionary War were fought today, most liberal-Democrats would side with the British!
