I grew up reading comic books in the 1940's and 1950's, including Captain Marvel. His archenemy was Dr. Sivana and his sister was Mary Marvel. Those two wore red suits and their friend, Captain Marvel jr. wore a blue one. When the time came to change into the super beings, the first two said "Shazam!" and their friend said "Captain Marvel Junior," which I always thought was too much to have to say. Junior's alter ego was named Freddie; he walked on crutches, lived in a boarding house where he loved blueberry pie and supported himself by operating a news stand. I also thought it odd that Junior's alter ego was apparently older than the captain's alter ego was.

Marvel Comics has the rights to call their character Captain Marvel. Billy Batson's alter ego legally has to be called Shazam.

Back then it wasn't a legal thing. I enjoy following both characters and looking forward to both movies next month. Although I think Captain Marvel will be the better movie.
