Incels & alt-right already losing their minds over Captain Marvel

I suppose you mean Clark Kent, but who is Marc? The alter ego of the original Captain Marvel was Billy Batson, a boy newscaster, who would say the magic word "Shazam." Way out in Space, the old wizard by that name would hear him and hurl a lightning bolt, which would strike Billy and turn him into Captain Marvel.

As you may or may not know, Superman has two weaknesses. One is Kryptonite and the other is magic. Since the original Captain Marvel's powers came from magic, the Big Red Cheese would have beaten Superman, if they had ever fought.

Sometimes I feel guilty or embarrassed about having spent so much of my youth reading stupid comic books.

Typo, I meant Mar. My phone must have autocorrected. Shoutout to every kid with a red line under their names.

The guy you're thinking of was only "Captain Marvel" for like a week before the lawsuits started pouring in and he had to change his name to MarvelMan, and now he's just called "Shazam". He's not the real Captain Marvel.

The real Captain Marvel at the time was Mar Vel, (current) Captain Marvel's husband and smoking hot alien. IDK why DC thought they could just rip off the name and nobody would notice. You have to at least change "shot" to "pool" in a DeadName.

Then they became one of those crime fighting supercouples. Then he died, but you, it's comics so he got better.

My point is everyone should fuck aliens.

Ok... ALMOST everyone.

Also Billy's not a newscaster by any stretch of the imagination. He's like 12. He's a fucking street urchin. That's the whole thing. No one knows his secret identity because if they did his name would be BatShazam. If Batman knew there were any orphans in the DC universe he just scoops those little shits up.

How many kids does Bruce even have now? Like 50?

Journalist... bitch you're ten.

I've just... never seen anyone so fundamentally misunderstand a character. The entire point of Shazam is that Billy is a little bitty kid who was given these powers because his life was absolute shit. The entire point of the character is "What happens if a traumatized child is given the power he always wanted?"

https://www.dccomics.com/sites/default/files/styles/covers192x291/public/comic-covers/2018/12/shazam_1_5c080b00e9e9b3.34527091.jpg?itok=vR_dzzNx

The answer is "a lot of fucked up shit". Most of the comics are about Billy trying to be a superhero, but at heart he's a frightened child. His weakness is that he's a FUCKING FOURTH GRADER who didn't understand the responsibility associated with his position, so he often falls into situations where, despite his immense power, he needs to be rescued because he has the mind of a frightened, traumatized child. Pretending to be an adult.

If he were an adult it would completely ruin his character. There may have been an old TV or something that did that, but if that's the case, the writers would have done that because they didn't want the somber tone and psychological angle that makes the comics worth reading. They might have been going for a more playful tone or something, but honestly, that Shazam wouldn't be worth having. Because the whole point of the character is that this homeless kid got something he wanted- but it didn't help. It didn't undo his trauma. It didn't make him not homeless. It didn't solve his problems.

And as to what would happen if Billy and Clark got into a fight? Billy might not have an advanced degree in Investigative Journalism, but you know who does? You know who notices if he sees a grown-ass man acting like he has the mind of a ten year old? He stops the fight. And he follows him. Because he knows what it's like to be a little kid who is different. Clark Kent is a literal alien. He knows what it's like to be alienated. So he doesn't fight. He lets it go. He talks him down, because he IS a journalist, he DOES know when something is fucked up.

And he doesn't just let it go, either. He tracks that kid down. And he sits on a bare mattress in an abandoned building, and he lets a frightened child know that he isn't alone.

We know what would happen if Superman fought Shaazam, and the answer is that Clark motherfucking Kent would not fight a child.

So, people who are expressing their dislike about putting a female lead into this kind of character aren't "proper"?

Seems to me this would be a HUGE red flag to any other movie producers and screenwriters to not do this kind of project again rather than dissing on the paying public.

But, what do I care, I don't go to the movies anyway.

No, he said they aren't proper reviews. Which they aren't - you can't properly review something without seeing it. You can write something that might be published in the review section of a magazine, newspapers, website, etc, but it wouldn't actually a review of the thing.

Apparently YOU failed to get the message. It doesn't matter if the original conception was for a female lead, THE PAYING PUBLIC doesn't like it. Dissing on them in favor of the disliked concept is stupid. That's like saying the Edsel was a fantastic car and people were morons for not buying one.

It was a fantastic car for it's era. Except the PAYING PUBLIC didn't like it.

Guess what happened next...

LMAO - this is some amazing side-stepping. Not only was your original comment based on not understanding what/who Rory was calling 'proper', but you're now trying to claim that when you said "... people who are expressing their dislike about putting a female lead into this kind of character ...", you weren't suggesting that a female had been cast into a male role.
Who would you suggest play 'this kind of character' (i.e. one who's been a woman from the get-go) ... a cross-dressing guy maybe?

Rotten Tomatoes Users are Trashing "Captain Marvel" Before They've Even Seen It

Marvel’s first woman-led superhero movie, Captain Marvel, is being trolled on Rotten Tomatoes by users who haven’t even seen the film yet.

The movie, which hits US theaters March 8, has received roughly three dozen negative audience “reviews” on the platform as of this morning (Feb. 20). Users are rating the film as “not interested” on Rotten Tomatoes and leaving negative comments including disparaging remarks about lead actress Brie Larson, as the Hollywood Reporter notes. These aren’t proper reviews: The movie is not out yet and hasn’t been screened for preview audiences, so these users wouldn’t have had an opportunity to watch it yet.

Everyone has an opinion they want everyone to hear regardless of facts a lot of times and they're in such a hurry to tell people they're doing before the movie even comes out anymore.

Mindless liberals should realize that having a female portraying Audie Murphy would run into the same kind of negativity.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ok I get getting Marvel's Marvel mixed up with Shazam but did someone really confuse her with Cap?
BTW the Shazam movie has potential. Looks like it's riding a razor thin edge tho. Lots and lots of room to be awful.

You know, you don't always have to post without the slightest comprehension about what's going on. :(

What's going on, skidmark, is a whole lot of liberal virtue signalling and people are tired of it.

Not in this thread. In this thread there are a whole lot of MAGA snowflakes whining about something they don't understand.

If you want to bitch about a movie that did a poor job reenvisioning its source material with a female cast, then bitch about Ghostbusters 2016. :D

I bitch constantly about the lack of creativity in Hollywood and the revisionist virtue signalling that goes along with every destructive rewrite.

The thread is about MAGA hat wearing incels griping about a female superhero. How it was taken as liberal virtue signaling is quite hilarious.

It's another anti-male propaganda piece, you dope.

Captain Marvel is a female superhero in the Marvel Universe and has been for quite some time. How is a movie based on an established comic book character “anti-male propaganda?” Furthermore, how could you make that claim having not seen the film?
