The moment of truth

Resubmitted after a night's sleep.

I think it's best for everybody if I go and do something else for a while. I'll check in now and then. It was never my intention to intimidate or be a self-publicist. I'm pretty harmless really, it's just my funny little way.

If you'd like to read the story (minus today's edits) you can see it at https://***************/document/d/1AbgWykMaXr3WqTyUc3pFQv4oZYK_srnxcECVitT4YYU/edit?usp=sharing

Don’t worry about it. You should have seen me when I first started here. It’s actually rather funny looking back but at the time......

Just be yourself. Everybody else does and some us are more extroverted than others.... and some are more blunt than diplomatic .... life on the internet

Rosie, get your happy arse over to the coffee shop. Someone left you a fresh bottle of that Gargle Blaster stuff.

Whoooo!

Feeling somewhat mollified now. I've been out getting the messages. It's cold out, been sub-zero all day (unusual for Glasgow) after after a very cold night, but clear skies and not much wind means its bearable.

Thoughts with American friends with their polar blast, and also with Aussie friends experiencing a furnace-like heatwave.

Well, this comes up weekly. No biggie. Edit, rewrite, resubmit. Repeat until it’s accepted. I’m with Keith, ascerbic as he can be. Wish I’d known the AH existed when I started. It would have speeded up my learning curve. I figured it out by trial and error. Mostly errors.

The one thing is not to get your tits in a tangle (those aussies, it’s catching), just sit back and understand everyone’s being a lot nicer than they usually are LOL

I've come to accept the rules more now that I've been here a little while. I figured - with good advice from others here - that even things like "underage" role play are better rewritten before submission. I probably wouldn't even include characters talking about other characters in real novels (e.g., the teenage runaway and the protagonist's son in Updike's Rabbit Redux).

Occasionally it does chafe a bit but usually I can handle it.

Terrible example. The supreme Court has consistently ered on the side of free speech when artistic works have depicted underage nudity or sexual activity. (Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition)

Legally, you could write an erotic story with even young children having sex, add graphic illustrations, and share it with other adults without falling afoul of the law. Most sites choose to be far more restrictive about what they allow, but that's the door owner, not the government.

While this is true... would you want to frequent a site that has a bunch of pedophiles hanging out for the next chilling chapter of Rosie the 13 year old gets shagged?

I wouldn't. I'm sure there are a lot of us here who wouldn't. Laurel doesn't and it is her site.

When they stop delivering beer because it freezes in the trucks, you know it's cold.

Listen, sweetie, you live and you learn. I am looking forward to reading you here, so I hope you are sticking around.

Things get rough and tumble here now and then, and you will learn whose input is valuable to you, and whose is not. I recently went back and reread a thread I started as a newer writer. At the time I took all the criticism totally to heart. Looking at it now, with more experience under my belt, I see a lot (not all) of it as pure horseshit.

Keep your chin up and your keyboard clicking.

Well, they're obviously not delivering British beer. The stuff is chemically formulated to never go below tepid. I have a plot bunny somewhere concerning two tramps who hole up in a railway car full of UK suds on a freezing day, only to be found two days later suffering from heat exhaustion. :D
