My first goal would be don't freeze to death. This is a real fear based on my current wardrobe which consists mostly of work clothes not intended for outdoor sports.

Most locals just wear normal clothes, have decent shoes, and have a coat the keeps them warm. A hat and gloves or mitts should be on the list.

The poor bastard is lucky that these good samaritans dropped by and knew what they were doing. They were able to get the thing out, pull the spark plugs and pump the water out of the engine and get it started. Had there been time for it to freeze in, might have been a total loss.
