Ha! This is what I think when I see those squares on the top. I was just having a conversation about always seeing the best in things.

That's done in the Greene and Greene style. They pioneered the use of the raised pegs in the Arts & Crafts movement as well as a few other styling details like "cloud lifts".

I built a dining room set once based on their style in Red Oak and Jatoba.

That’s really beautiful. Nice work. I would say the squares I see in Rob’s piece more resemble early Stickley. They are much larger. I have several antique Arts and Crafts pieces. I hung into the best and sold the rest when I switched to more mid century look at home.

Thank you. The person I built it for loves it even though it weighs a ton. The seats were supposed to be woven cane in wooden frames, but the customer wanted padding.

The "squares" you're talking about are the exposed tops of the legs. The "pegs" are in the piece you showed. They're on the fronts level with the middle shelf. It's the panel slots and the pegs which lean it toward Greene and Greene. At least in my mind, though I admit it's been awhile since I did any study of the style.

Right now I'm in the design stage for a new bed frame in a Monterey Spanish style. The final build will be ammonia fumed white oak (it changes the wood color to a deep brown) with hammered iron strap inset panels and accents. Or at least that's the plan for someday. I still have to build a hood for my 1790's era English tall clock at some point too.

But, back to Christmas trees. I"m treeless this year. Not even a wreath. I might have to open a bottle of Pine Sol just for the smell. Or buy one of the car fresheners...

We put up our tree last night. The munchkins went over board piling on the ornaments. Rob’s tree would be toppled. It’s perfect.
