Police Fatally Shoot Black Security Guard Who Detained Shooting Suspect

Roberson was holding a firearm he was licensed to carry. Other witnesses, and a lawsuit filed by Roberson's family, reportedly said he was wearing a hat emblazoned with the word "security."

"Everybody was screaming out 'Security!' " Harris told WGN. "And they still did their job, and saw a black man with a gun, and basically killed him."

Another witness, Jakia Woods, told member station WBEZ's Miles Bryan that Roberson was wearing an orange vest and the hat marked "security."

She said it was "absolutely clear" that he was a security guard.

State police: Midlothian cop told security guard 'multiple' times to drop his weapon

A Midlothian police officer gave “multiple verbal commands” to security officer Jemel Roberson to drop his gun and get on the ground before the Midlothian officer fatally shot Roberson at a Robbins bar Sunday morning, according to a preliminary Illinois State Police report released late Tuesday.

State police cited “witness statements” in the report.

but..but...this smacks of "white privilege", something BotanyBoy swears on his Uma's grave does not exist!

So why didn't he obey the command to put his weapon down? Which is standard procedure when the police encounter a shooting incident where the shooter is still holding an unholstered firearm, lawful shooting or not.

Half the facts, lots of outrage, and then smearing everything with that broad brush once more. Yeah, the progressives are at it again screaming that the cops are racists.

It's tragic but things happen. Poor training, poor view of the event unfolding, misunderstandings, and so on. Lots of seemingly unrelated things can make what appears like a simple cut & dried situation go sideways in a hurry.

At this point we know less than nothing. What the media has sensationalized doesn't cover what the officer saw/knew. Until we know those facts, it's best we not claim racial bias by the cops.

To them it's an execution of a black man by the police.

Welp....if you were able to point one out you would convince me otherwise.

privilege noun
priv·i·lege | \ˈpriv-lij, ˈpri-və-\
Definition of privilege (Entry 1 of 2)
: a right or immunity granted as a peculiar benefit, advantage, or favor : PREROGATIVE
especially : such a right or immunity attached specifically to a position or an office

Where is the particular right, benefit, advantage or immunity that only white people get for being white being used in this case??

What part of this situation exactly, "smacks" of white privilege?

It's ok Rob....we don't have to wait, just start with the name calling because we all know you can't name anything specific, which verifies you being full of shit just like every other bigot. :D

Priorities...

Mr. Roberson's mother has filed a $1 million lawsuit before she buries her son.

That's because they are attention whores.

No one mentioned racism or racist cops until you guys did.

Whaddabout teh Second Amendment?

Doesn't it talk about the right to bear arms?

Does that mean any law abiding gun owner must immediately put their weapon on the ground when asked by any government authority? Or does this subservience only apply to non-whites?

*snort*

Except only the article you posted.

WTF do you THINK "basically they saw a black man with a gun and they killed him" means?

At some point you need to get your head out of your ass. I'd say for you to do that before you make a fool of yourself, but you've already done that.

Did you and the droll little phuckwad get married or something? I swear you and he are getting more and more alike every day.

Woods said that the Midlothian officer came out of the club's back door — weapon drawn — and ordered Roberson to "get on the ground."

"Before he says 'ground' he fires the first shot," she said, adding that she has not been interviewed by investigators.

You're a bit surly for my taste. I have no idea what race the cop is. Black = not a race motivated murder - or- white = racist cops? You mentioned not knowing all the facts, take your own advice.

I would consider this an unlawful order based on bad training. When a suspect is being detained at gunpoint, the first order is to secure/cuff the suspect, not disarm the person detaining the suspect.

Later Tuesday, after the protest ended, Illinois State Police released a statement saying that, according to preliminary findings, Roberson was wearing all black and did not have anything identifying him as a security guard. That contradicts statements from Gregory Kulis, a lawyer who filed a civil rights lawsuit Monday on behalf of Roberson’s family, who said Roberson wearing a hat with “security” printed on it.

State police also said the officer shot Roberson after he was given several verbal commands to drop his weapon.

Too bad Mr. Thin-skin. No one here is going to hold your hand and make baby kisses in your direction. (Ok, some might, but they want something from you that I'm pretty sure you're too uptight to deliver.) If you can't take someone disagreeing with you, then you're in the WRONG PLACE and trying to sling your nonexistent weight around isn't going to win you any style points or friends.

As for the rest, you REALLY REALLY REALLY need to take a class in reading comprehension. Because you REALLY REALLY REALLY suck at it. NO ONE is talking about the race of the COP. The inference in the article is that the cop is white and he shot and killed the security guard JUST BECAUSE the guard was black.

That's your own article.

And then you come and say "no one mentioned it".

What a maroon.

No. The first thing the cop will do is disarm EVERYONE in order to gain control of the situation.

That means put your gun down even if you're the good guy. Because the cop doesn't know who the good guy is. And a guy in an orange vest with "security" on it doesn't automatically translate into "good guy with a gun".

Training, safety, and protocol means that the cop orders everyone to disarm. Don't follow the cop's order, get shot.
